BALI / G-Land
31st Aug – 1st Sept 2018
Hello everyone and welcome to the weekend here at the baliwaves (your eye’s in Indo since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions. From right here on the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok so thanks to our good friends at Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp for today’s photo gallery fresh out of the Alas Purwo jungle where the famous long and perfect wave of G-Land is located. And it looks like the wind patterns have been a little more favorable over in East Java than what they have been here in Bali the last couple of days.
Don’t forget if you want to hit G-Land for a surf trip to remember contact us and we’ll sling you a 15% discount and that’s a fair whack back in your pocket !

Here in Bali this morning we were hoping to find something to surf but struck out. With the wind coming light out of the South this morning we headed off to Keramas around 7.45AM just as the tide was starting to push back in. But even over at this place where the wind is often clean and glassy in the morning it was howling on shore out of the South. No surfers in the water when we were on the scene but that was mainly due to the tide being still a touch to dry. There was plenty of swell hitting K-Mas with the bigger sets just under the double head high class.
I was also shocked from the ever increasing amount of erosion that has gone down over in this area with so much sane gone from the beach. You know for years and years as long as I have been going over to Keramas (long time before the over development in fron of the wave) I’ve never seen any erosion like what is happening now and there were just as big tides and swell then as well. Beach front development is an environmental disaster waiting to happen where ever it happens.
So we just headed back to Tuban and even a later check on the Outer Reefs had the wind still coming out of the South at midday. I looks like the wind has finally switched back to the ESE-SE now at 4.00pm but I’m already over it.
Weather wise today it’s been a mostly overcast day that hasn’t really cleared up much since early. Just starting to see some patched of blue showing now that the wind has turned. Temperature wise the mercury is on 30C and 73%H.
Here’s a couple of relevant surf travel tips for Bali for at the beach.
1/ don’t bring the hard wax with you like Dr Z’s cause your board will be warm at the beach and you won’t be able to rub “hard” wax onto a warm board.
2/ beware there are sea urchins at the rocky shore line locations on both sides of the island especially Medewi on the West
3/ get a “day cover” for your board bag and use it to keep the wax on your board and off your shirt when you carry it. The sun can be brutal on surfboards left in the sun in Indo
4/ Only take enough money to the beach to get you through the session, enough for food and drink. Always ask some one to keep an eye on your things, leave your stuff in a warung if possible it should be safe there and just buy a drink and food when your done to repay the owners.
5/ put a little piece of wax in your back pocket so you can touch up your board after the first hour in the surf, keep a good grip happening.
Ok have a good Saturday where ever you are and lets hope this dry season keep going a bit longer, I’m sure it will, but these type of weather pattern are tell tale signs of the “Wet” on the way.
