For a record 4th time.
Young Gun Mega Artana who had won the Juniors Division two times previously, stepped it up to take out the opens division this year. Ryuki Waida from Padma Boys and the young brother of former opens winner Rio, put on a clinical performance to take out the Juniors division win, whilst Medewi journeyman and under the radar legend took his second masters title .
The waves were firing Saturday backing off some on Sunday but still giving all contestants plenty of opportunities during the entire two days event to ride one of the longest left hand waves in Indo.
Strong teams were fielded in all divisions from Halfway, Padma, Lakey Peak (LPB), Perenenan (PSC) Uluwatu, Nusa Lembongan, Medewi, and a host of other Indo rippers.
Saturday the contest was officially started with the opening ceremony, with the Jembrana Bupati, with, local traditional Jegog dance and music as part of the proceedings.
With over 100 competitors the contest ran smoothly and efficiently thx to our ASC and local judging team Bli Nyoman, Camel, Robbie, Herman, Kamal, with a great commentary team lead by Dedi Gun and team. At the end of Saturday a nice paddle out ceremony was undertaken by MBR in respect to Kota Okumura who regretfully passed away whilst surfing in Medewi two weeks ago. It was a heartfelt occasion especially for our perennial legend Herman who was like family to Mr Okumura. All the mbr boys came together to pay tribute.
On Saturday Night MBR put on a Live Band from Australia the Gurus, to entertain the crowd as well as a restaurant beach style fish BBQ.
Sunday was finals day with dropping conditions but still ample opportunity the contest ran smoothly to close out by 1.30pm. The awards presentation followed officiated by the Kepala Desa of Medewi.
