BALI / INDONESIA
12th – 13th October 2018
Hi folks and welcome back to the baliwaves (working, i mean surfing through the weekends here in Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views. From right here on the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok so yesterday the 12th and we took a run over to the East side around 7.30AM just as the tide was starting to run in. The wind was light and our first destination was only breaking in the 2-2ft+ range with already 40 surfers in the water. So we headed up a little further to Keramas. Here the tide was still a touch low, but on the way in and wave height was in the 2-3ft range with nice potential. Until it seems like a whistle blew or something and a heap of surfers came filing out of the resort pushing the only just viable crowd way over the top. In the end we we ended up surfing back here in Tuban on the Outer Reefs. With friendly chest to slightly over head waves.
Today the 13th and with the wind light and variable we headed down to Balangan. Knowing that with the tide still on the lower end there wouldn’t be too many surfers in the water. And that’s about how it was when we got there at 8.15AM. The tide was pushing in off a reef exposing low, the wind light and variable and only a handful in the water. That changed as the tide filled in. But as always it’s a good day down at Balangan and there was plenty of scenery to keep the Ketut (the photographer) occupied.
Weather wise it was kinda 50 / 50 early but as the morning progressed it just turned out to be another hot and sunny day here on the holiday island.
I also do have to say it was great to catch up with an old good friend and true Indo surfing legend Mr Peter McCabe the other afternoon / evening. Peter has been over in G-Land surfing and doing some interviews for a new book that is in the works. So we had lots of beers and lots of time for some stories, thanks to The Man.
