Yesterday the 12th we thought we’d give the East Coast another shot hoping to find similar conditions as the day before. On first glimpse it was looking ok, showing a drop in wave size but conditions were clean. By the time we got out there the ESE- SE Trade wind started to lick in and it didn’t take long to mush out the waves. So we pulled the plug and made our way over to Balangan on the West Side. Balangan had some nice over head to almost double head high waves and a few peelers between the close outs. Only a dozen or so surfers in the water with the wind clean off shore. I still haven’t even down loaded those photos as yet.
This morning the 13th and the wind was up early again but with a little more SSE direction through the AM. Our first check was on Kuta Reef and it looked like there were some nice over head waves breaking but looked like a solid crowd on it. Which usually is the case when it gets bigger down on the Uluwatu end of the island. But we took a run down to Uluwatu anyway hoping it would be clean and surf able. Wave height down there was still pushing a solid 6ft on the sets but the wind was kinds cross / off shore out on the Bombie and Peak. There were a few peeling off on Outside Racetrack but nothing really worth making the effort.
Weather wise today it was another crappy cloudy and rainy type Bali winters day.
Today’s photo gallery features Day 1 of the Padang Padang Trials on the 11th There were a few solid and hollow open waves breaking. But just not quite big enough to see Padang Padang doing it’s best. Padang Padang tends to pinch shut at the end of the tube section when it’s not big enough. But all the same the boys were pulling in hard and going deep after a spot in the main event. I’ve also thrown in some background photos from our travels over the last couple of days.
I have had a quick look through Ketut’s video footage from Padang Padang and I think we will have enough tube time to make up a short video for you as soon as we get a spare couple of hours, so keep an eye out for that.
