BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
11th May 2020
Firstly we do know from first hand experience how tough it is here in Bali with absolutely no support other than friends and family. We would also like to offer a free promotional service to any other small outfits / businesses that are surf related here in Indonesia and Australia. So in turn we have told all our sponsors that we will be waving any fee’s until things are getting back to normal again. Please contact us to see if your eligible for free promotion on baliwaves. We are surfers doing this for our fellow surfers and will hopefully continuing to do our thing for many years to come.
Hello out there to everyone still tuning into the baliwaves. I’m sure this Bali Corona Virus hasn’t taken away your hunger for more Bali surf sessions. That’s why we are continuing to keep stoking the fire, with more material from our almost infinite archives that we have collected over the decades of baliwaves.com’s service to surfers pursuit of perfect waves in Bali and other islands of Indonesia.
Today’s archives head back to Canggu, before the beautiful people arrived and the surf schools started to clog up the shoulders. Before night clubs, petite coffee shops, vegans and yoga pants came to town. To tell you the truth as most know it wasn’t really that long ago that cows, horses and wild dogs owned the beach and beach fringe at the SandBar and Pererenan. Now you have to thread your way along an umbrella filled beach with every inch a money earner to the multitude of warungs and their deck chair / sofa beds. Pro’s and Cons, that’s progress and there’s no holding it back. I still love a day at Canggu and can’t wait to get back there to check in with my friends again.
Back to the present, here in Bali under local government decree pretty much all beaches have been closed in Bali. Some area’s have been guarded by Police and local Balinese Banjars and off limits. Some beaches don’t have actual authoritative figures on the scene. So the latter area’s have quite a lot of foreign and local surfers still in the water. But most surfers are still abiding by the rules, hoping that the beaches will be “officially open” again soon. It does get a little stressful, to say the least. But I guess it’s a personal choice, I chose to make Bali my home 25 years ago and have done my best to do everything the right way ever since.
BTW from the photos I’ve seen from *surfers still surfing and posting on FB etc it’s been cranking on both coastlines. Early morning light wind for the East Coast and then back here on the West side when the “Tradey” kicks in. The month of May is usually always riddled with Indian Ocean swells and that’s what is happening. All of us surfers are now waiting for the next call (29th May) whether the beaches will re open again or the closure extended again.
Weather wise well here at my place in the South of Kuta it’s been perfect. There has been some welcomed rain through the nights but our day time weather is pure Bali.
Swell Forecast, I’ve dropped a few images of the swell in transit to Bali (thanks to StormSurf) in today’s gallery and as I mentioned previously the month of May never lets us down and we have another good week of waves on the way to Bali.
Special thanks dept goes out to the handful of friends that have kicked in some dollars to help my family and I to keep some food on the table, lights on and baliwaves.com still keeping you in the loop. I can’t thank you all enough. Please spare a thought for all our Balinese / Indonesian friends here in Bali, no tourism means no income and it’s been dead quite now since January..
Our Surf Fit Guru Mr Clive Rodell has also put together an essential Fitnes manuel that breaks down into layman terms how to keep your body in tip top condition that will keep you surfing well into retirement. He also goes in depth into how to manage and fix all those niggling annoying injuries that we tend to accumulate. So check it out and ask Clive for more information and how to get your hands on it.
Thanks again friends for your continued support of the original Bali surf report website.
