BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
20th – 24th July 2020
Firstly, Special thanks to our good friends that have kicked in some dollars to help my family and I keep food on our table, lights on and baliwaves.com being able to help keep you in the loop. We do know from first hand experience how tough it is here in Bali with absolutely no support other than friends and family.
We would also like to offer a free promotional service to any other small outfits / businesses that are surf related here in Indonesia and Australia. So in turn we have told all our sponsors that we will be waving any fee’s until things are getting back to normal again. Please contact us to see if your eligible for free promotion on baliwaves.
Ok we hope everyone is coping as best as can be, like I mentioned we have been getting by just through the generosity of our friends, we can’t thank everyone enough. Here in Bali people seem to be getting back into their normal routines. Most small businesses are open along with office workers etc. The people who are hurting the most are those directly involved with Bali’s tourism sector. Although the Government is pushing to re open up he International airports on the 11th of September I really can’t see tourists flocking back here just yet.
We have been keeping busy, there is always plenty of un paid work to do around the house and on the baliwaves. Just keeping busy does help keep the stress levels down so I’ve been keeping as busy as possible. Since our big swell hit on the 18th wave height has been gradually dropping down. Today as it shows in these frame grabs I’ve thrown up wave height was down into the 2-4ft class at Uluwatu. Bali’s swell magnet location. I arrived on the scene just after 8.30am as the tide was starting to run in. There was still a couple peeling through the Racetrack section but more waves showing on Temple’s and the Main Peak.
The Tradewind was already cranking up and blowing hard off shore even with the cliff’s buffeting it some. Down at Temple’s wave height was a consistent head to head high plus. While the Main Peak had a few well over head set waves and a few hollow sections popping up. Crowd wise it was pretty quite as can be expected, maybe 15 on Temples and another 15 – 20 on the Peak. Most warungs were void of any westerners, there was only one other person in Surya warung while I was there.
By the time I left around 11.00am the tide was getting pretty high and the waves were a lot less consistent. Driving home past Padang Padang and Impossible’s there wasn’t very much breaking, maybe 1-2ft at best.
Weather wise it’s been a beautiful day here, with only a the off cloud drifting across a blue background. The next tide today is going to be a dry reef exposing 0.1mtr Low at 6.37pm. Temperature wise today the mercury peaked at 29 degree’s Celsius. Now at 2.40pm it’s still a warm but windy 28 degree’s.
Tomorrows Swell Forecast is calling for pretty much the same size as today. Light wind early before the ESE-SE Trade wind kicks in mid morning. The 26th is looking for a little more swell to be showing arounf the island and waves right through into August.
With the local Government ending the emergency visa grace period on the 13th of July there have been a lot of people trying to find flights back to their country of origin. Just to give you an idea as to how most airlines are handling this. If you have to fly back to Australia there is a very limited number of flights and no economy class for starters. A one way flight to Sydney will cost around AU$3,000. and yes ONE WAY. So imagine what a one way flight to the US or Europe is going to cost, they are not doing anyone any favors, as usual.
It is also now mandatory to wear a face mask in Bali if your in any public area and fines are going to be imposed. If I was handing out fines for not wearing masks I would have cleaned up down at Uluwatu today, I didn’t see one westerner wearing a mask, while I did notice at least 95% of locals were wearing masks.
