BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
12th December 2020
Hello to everyone tuning into the baliwaves and again I feel I should say sorry for the lack of reports and photos. As all you Bali people know our season has changed from clean off shore wind and hot dry weather to wet and mostly windy. I think it’s still a bit up and down and if the last 25+ years has been any indication or pattern producing indicator then I think we might still see a little “clean” weather later this month or early January 2021. But for now I have to say the weather and surfing conditions have been very sub standard Bali. The last week or so we have had a Tropical Depression that passed underneath West Java traveling East past us in Bali as well that accounted for the crappy wind and bad weather. Hopefully between now and the New Year it will stabilize and give us a break.
I also know your not real interested in seeing photos of 2-3ft waves and mostly cross shore wind, onshore at most of Bali’s locations. So I have had a quick look at the first hard disk in my cupboard and chose a folder from August 2017 for today’s re run gallery. Nothing big and mean just some good old fun Bali waves that went down at Uluwatu that winters day (dry season).
Here at my place (rented house) in South Kuta it’s been pretty quite and everytime I venture into the totally empty guest house / villa next door to us I do instantly dip down a little on the depression scale. Memories of a full house of surfed out surfers planning on where they will have dinner and where we will surf the next day. Usually after sunset beers on the beach. Hopefully it won’t be too long before those days can return to Bali again soon.
Yes I was feeling a little bit down, thinking about then and now. But my wife Ayu and the kids had re assembled our little Christmas tree while I was down the beach and when I came home and saw the lights on it twinkling away an instant smile came to my face. My family and I are Hindu but I have taught my 2 kids a little bit about Christmas and the meaning of it. And I am happy that they are into it. There are no presents under our tree yet. But last week I couldn’t believe how many real friends I have out there, sending their Christmas cheer and along with it a little help financially. Now we will be able to get the kids a present or two. Many many thanks to you guys I am so stoked and honoured to have friends like you.
This morning here on the West Coast of Bali wave height is still mostly only in the 1-2ft range with some slightly bigger set waves. Surfing conditions on the Outer Reefs between Kuta reef and Airport left has a WNW wind and looking very ordinary. You might have a few small waves at Canggu but I’d say the water quality after last nights rain might not be the best. Early this morning there might have been a few small but fun waves had on the East Coast around Keramas. I did hear that the Nusa Dua area is closed off to the public. In order to try and create a virus free “green zone”..
Weather wise this morning at 11.00am the sky is still overcast but at least it’s stopped raining. Last night we had some heavy rain that went through till early this morning. Wind direction is currently W-NW 10km/h with the tide running down for a 0.4mtr Low just before 2pm. The moon phase is heading for a Full moon on the 15th.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for a slight drop in wave height with light NNW wind early tending WNW through out the day. The coming week is showing pretty small surf with light to moderate on shore wind along our West Coast.
On the Bali Corona Virus situation unfortunately Bali and Indonesia have continued to see record numbers of new infections and deaths. There are currently over 89,000 active cases that are recorded across Indonesia. It looks like our only hope is a vaccine at this stage.
Ok friends thanks again for tuning into the original Bali surf report and fingers crossed we will see some decent waves and weather again soon here on the World’s No.1 tropical island surfing destination of Bali.
