BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
Christmas 2020
Hello to everyone tuning into the baliwaves and again I feel I should say sorry for the lack of reports and photos. As all you Bali people know our season has changed from clean off shore wind and hot dry weather to wet and mostly windy. I think it’s still a bit up and down and if the last 25+ years has been any indication or pattern producing indicator then I think we might still see a little “clean” weather later this month or early january 2021. But for now I have to say the weather and surfing conditions have been very sub standard Bali.
The majority of the last week here in South Kuta the surf has been lucky to have been in the 1-2ft+ range between Kuta Reef and Airport left, pretty well everywhere in Bali for that matter. Along with gusty on shore West to South winds that don’t do much for any locations except blow cross onshore to straight onshore at most locations. We did see a nice bump in wave height on the 21st / 22nd and there was still plenty of it left yesterday afternoon when I went down for a surf check on Kuta Reef.
This morning the 24th and there is still some swell showing in the 2-3ft+ class between Kuta reef and Airport left how ever the wind is on shore out of the WNW at 5-7knot. The next tide today will be a 0.8mtr Low around 11.30am. The charts are calling for a slight bump in wave height for tomorrow the 25th along with much lighter wind so chances are pretty good for some Chrissy waves here in Bali. At this stage I’m also seeing a swing in wind direction to SE-SSE tomorrow afternoon, wait and see I guess.
We have also been getting our fair share of wet season rain around the island of Bali. Here in South Kuta it’s been mostly over night and early morning. This morning was no different with some rain, but at 9.00am we do have some blue sky and the temperature is currently on 28 degree’s Celsius.
Further out we do have a more moderate sized swell in transit to Indonesia with plenty of swell heading towards the reefs of the Mentawai islands down through Sumatra and Java. Then to Bali and right down through the islands East of us to see out the end of 2020.
Ok today’s Photo gallery was shot at Padang Padang of course, September 2009. A sick collection of photos shot from the water or maybe a zodiak but I really can’t remember who sent them through to us. But there was quite a few photos in the folder I have (dated and time stamped) in the hard disk I dug them out of.
On the Bali Corona Virus scene things seem to have been getting continually worse looking at the daily numbers and graphs of daily new cases and fatalities. The number of current active cases across Indonesia now stands at over 102,000 and Bali has just under 1000 active cases. I had to pass through the Canggu area yesterday and was again shocked seeing the number of lilly white or pink skinned tourists flaunting the mask wearing protocol that is in place. 90% were of obvious European appearance and probably coming from high risk countries.
It’s pretty sad that these people come to enjoy what Bali has on offer but show absolutely no respect or regards to protecting the Balinese population by flaunting the protocols put in place by the Governor of Bali.
The Indonesian Government has also put some new and stricter measures in place to help control new imported cases of COVID-19 into Indonesia.
