Hello everyone and welcome back to the baliwaves, your eyes and ears here on your first choice tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali. Alright after my balls up the other day I have reset my nonchalant methods of downloading and up loading and, so far so good.
Yesterday the 15th and as I mentioned in my last report there were still some nice 2-4 footers breaking over at Keramas on the early session. The first half of today’s photo gallery are the results with the rest of the photos taken this morning the 16th. Well the wave model predictions for today were pretty well spot on. A noticeable drop in wave height but still some waves on offer if you were “Johnny on the spot”
With only a handful of surfers over at Keramas on the day before how could we not go back for another shot ! Arriving at 6.45am to find an ultra clean and glassy wave with head high sets and only 3 surfers. The tide was still running down but being in the middle of the moon phase at the moment there was still enough water over the reef to get a few. The crowd did eventually increase to 8 at one stage. By 9.15am the wind was starting to take the glass off the waves coming up out of the SSW.
Driving back from the East Coast we thought we would be free of the traffic disruptions. Until we were diverted off the highway at Sanur and re directed back towards Denpasar. It wasn’t too bad and only added another 15-20 minutes onto our travel time. It will all be over soon so all good.
Weather wise today it was pretty hot over on the black sand beach of Keramas. As the afternoon has rolled on so did the clouds roll in to the South Kuta area. Big black and menacing looking but we only ended up with a few drops of rain. While all the time you could hear the distant rumbling of thunder. I’d say somewhere copped a good drenching, thunder and lightning show.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast has the wave models calling another slight drop in wave height on a slightly better period. The winds are looking a bit suss with a predicted SW-SSW, light early before building up some gusto by midday.
Ok troops thanks again and this is me for now but stay tuned and we’ll keep you in the loop with the latest news and the best surfing views from right here in Bali.
Breaking News Department
- During the G20 meetings being held here in Bali surfing at Airport Left or Airport Right has been banned for the duration of the G20. As surreal as it sounds that is what has been passed onto all surf taxi drivers from Patra beach to Kuta beach. Yesterday afternoon there was at least 6 traditional boats (mine included) chasing schools of fish right behind the airport runway without any drama.
- Petrol has jumped 30% in price from the 4th of September so be prepared for slight increases in all prices on just about everything here in Bali. The first of the increases was LPG, our 12kg refills have gone from Rp135K now at 230K for the same fill. 95% of Indonesia runs on gas for cooking so that’s going to hurt everyone. Everyone that is that’s not using US, Euro, GP or AU dollars that is.
