Hello folks and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves, we are trying our best to keep it all as real and actual as can be. Just tp prove baliwaves is indeed run by humans and open to “human error” yesterday without a doubt I was a totally all thumbs. Wanting to down 900 decent photos off the memory card from Uluwatu and hit the wrong button and deleted all except what is left in today’s photo gallery. Then to back this up our top techo Troy went and accidently deleted the last 3 posts off baliwaves. But at least I had backups of them and that’s whey the report page has 3 reports with the same “up load” date on them. Proof enough ? I guess after 23+ years of doing this we are both open to the odd booboo hey.
Anyway yesterday the 14th and we did in fact head off early for a trip down to Uluwatu, hoping to get in and out early to avoid any G20 traffic delays. Arriving around 7am expecting to find a solid contingency in the water we were pleasantly surprised to only maybe 10 surfers scattered from the Peak and down through the Racetrack. The tide was on the run in but still shallow enough for the Racetrack to produce a few little barrels in the chest to slightly over head high range for the boys in the water.
Surfing conditions on arrival were clean and glassy with hardly a breath of wind. It was also mostly overcast making it hot and sticky up in the warungs. The waves stayed nice and clean as the tide started to fill in but with the tide came the surfers and by 10am there would have been close to 100 surfers spread from Temples down to the Main Peak. Understandable with the smaller conditions and lack of waves around the island. I really was a bit pissed off with myself, (for a little while anyway) accidently deleting all yesterdays photos as there were a few local surfers tearing it up.
Weather wise it was overcast most of the morning but the sun did start to bust out as the wind shifted to the SW around late morning.
Driving home and we were quite aware of the “possible traffic delays” set in place from the visiting leaders attending this years G20 meeting here in Bali. Out first stoppage on the way back from Uluwatu was before the New Kuta Golf course where we waiting for a quick 10mins for some VIP’s to head in for a late morning round or two. Then we had another short delay near the Jimbaran McD’s but then it was clear sailing down the highway until we got to the Airport turn off. There we were greeted by some very very serious members of a very very special law enforcement branch all carrying what seemed like super high tech machine guns. No turning into the our usual route passing the airport. But lucky for us we knew a few “short cuts ” detours to get us home from there.
So it’s really important to anyone out there already in Bali to avoid the airport if possible. I’m not sure if it’s an all day thing or just certain times of the day. There is no published schedule for road closure so allow some extra time and keep the old Google Maps fired up to help get alternate routes.
Today the 15th and while I was reloading reports etc onto the site Ketut decided on taking a run back to one of the many black sanded beaches and has since phoned in and sent a photo for proof. Ketut’s photo did confirm a nice and clean 2-4ft or chest to slightly over head high wave with a light off shore wind on it. At the time there were only 6 surfers in the water and that sounded and looked like some serious good fun to me.
The next tide today in Bali will be a 1.8mtr High at 2.14pm
Weather wise outside right now at 10.40am there is some blue sky here in the South Kuta area but there is also some big fluffy clouds looking to the SE. Temperature wise the mercury is on 29C and the humidity is at 81%. Wind direction is now WNW at 2-4knt.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast has wave height predicted for a slight dip in size on a slightly lower period of 13-12 seconds out of a mostly SW direction. The wind has also been predicted to be a little more WNW-WSW through out the day.
Ok that’s about me for now and hopefully I won’t delete Ketut’s photos today. What’s that you say ? Nah, if you delete anything straight off the memory card it’s gone with no second chance via the “recycle bin” Have a great day and stay tuned here to Bali’s original surf report website here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination.
Breaking News Department
- During the G20 meetings being held here in Bali surfing at Airport Left or Airport Right has been banned for the duration of the G20. As surreal as it sounds that is what has been passed onto all surf taxi drivers from Patra beach to Kuta beach. Yesterday afternoon there was at least 6 traditional boats (mine included) chasing schools of fish right behind the airport runway without any drama.
- Petrol has jumped 30% in price from the 4th of September so be prepared for slight increases in all prices on just about everything here in Bali. The first of the increases was LPG, our 12kg refills have gone from Rp135K now at 230K for the same fill. 95% of Indonesia runs on gas for cooking so that’s going to hurt everyone. Everyone that is that’s not using US, Euro, GP or AU dollars that is.
