BALI / INDONESIA
30th – 31st January 2016
Hi folks and a big welcome back to your baliwaves (keeping you amped up for your next Indo surf trip since back in 1999) for our Sunday session on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination on Bali.
Starting off today’s report with a solid photo gallery that we shot over on Bali’s East Coast yesterday morning just after sun rise. We were on the scene to find wave height sneaking through in the 2-4ft class and only maybe 12 surfers in the water. Surfing conditions as it shows were clean and tidy with the wind still light off shore.
Weather wise it was a hot and sunny day with no rain crossing our path, just plenty of sun shine.
Today the 31st and we were up long before the sun rise and making our back up the West Coast of Bali to see what was happening at Balian beach. After and exceptionally good run on the notorious highway that leads to Java we arrived at 6.10AM to find no surfers in the water with wave height in the head to double head high class. The usual A frame left and right waves that Balian always offers up with a clean and fresh off shore wind to go with it. Surfing conditions stayed clean and tidy right through until 11.00AM when we packed up the truck and headed back down South to Home Base. The busiest the crowd got at Balian today was only 16 surfers at tops. Nice and friendly vibes in and out of the water at Balian today with only a couple of “zombie” sightings in the area.
I guess all the hype of the so called sharks seen swimming in the area some time ago has done it’s scare mongering job. This isn’t the first time there has been “shark sightings” at Balian and we all know that if we go into the ocean that’s where sharks live right. I’ve been surfing up in that area for almost 20 years (first trip up there) and have never seen one in the line up. Anyone who saw the “facebook” shark at Balian would know that in the video clip there is absolutely no way of identifying the location…. makes me wonder.
Weather wise today we had a light over cast type of day to start with here on the holiday island. But by mid morning the sun was powering through with the temperature already hitting the 30 Celsius mark. On the way home around Tabanan the wind did a hard switch to the West up to 30knot plus bringing in more cloud and eventually raining here in Tuban by late afternoon. A bit like Melbourne weather right.
Ok that’s me for today but I do have another hand full of photos sent through to us from our friends up at the Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai Islands and I’ll try and get that up before I kick back on the lounge. Have a good one and make sure you stay tuned right here to the one and only original baliwaves.
