BALI / INDONESIA
7th – 8th May 2017
Hi folks and welcome back to your baliwaves (bringing you a little bit of Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from here on every sane surfers favorite tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali.
Yesterday the 7th and it was a couple of my friends last day so we thought we would go somewhere a little bit different and seeing as though I hadn’t been to this spot for at least 6 months I was stoked. Our first surf check from the new surf check area was showing some fun waves peeling off in the 3-4ft+ range and maybe 25 surfers scattered through the line up. The tide was still a bit fat but we knew as it started to run down it would be breaking a lot better and a lot more shallow. As it shows in today’s photo gallery there were some very nice waves peeling off if you managed to pick the right kinda wave.
Weather wise it was a nice morning before we had a tropical storm blow in out of the North North West and dump some rain. Then some more afternoon sun shine to finish off our day.
Today the 8th and our 7.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was still showing wave height ranging in the 3-5ft class between Kuta Reef and Airport left. The tide was still pretty high at the time and the wind off shore outta the ESE.
I got Ketut to take a run back down to Bingin on the the bukit for the afternoon low tide and hopefully find some smoking barrels to shoot for us, while I catch up on stuff here at home.
Weather wise today so far we have had a mixed bag of weather, early morning rain and then a hiot afternoon here on the holiday island. Right now at 5.00PM the temperature is still sitting on 30 degree’s Celsius and the wind coming fresh out of the SE @ 15knot++.
Plenty of swell in transit to us and our friends here in Indonesia over the next week so make sure you stay tuned to the baliwaves ok.
Warung etiquette #1 Ok it’s so good to be able to come out of the surf here in Bali and have somewhere nice and cool to hang out grab a cold drink and some local cuisine. You know your stuff is safe and there’s a big chance you might meet some other friendly surfers, I said a chance. So in return for providing everyone shade, safety, food and drinks all the warung owners want is for you to not bring food and drinks even water from somewhere else. Now that is common sense, would you walk into a bar holding a beer from somewhere else, take food to a restaurant ? no you wouldn’t. So please respect the local warungs and do not take food and drink in with you. It’s a fair trade to use their warung and at least buy a bottle of water hey.
Great to see our friends from Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp cranking back up the their surf reports and sharing them with us.
