Lakey Peak April 2021
It’s been a slow start to the swell season in Lakey Peak. There has been a wave to surf everyday, but nothing to get excited about. Occasionally, there have been short pulses of swell that pushed the wave size overhead, but these conditions always deteriorated fairly quickly. Within a day or so, the regular sets would disappear, leaving only inconsistent left overs.
The trades have also set in. The mornings have remained nice and glassy, with the occasional cool offshore blowing off the green hills behind. But by mid morning, the wind swings cross shore. It blows light to begin with. Giving an enthusiastic few the chance to surf in only a mild chop. By lunchtime it is howling, and it usually blows right through until late afternoon. During the day, there have been windy sessions at Lakey Pipe for those willing to mix it up with the local kids taking off much deeper. But everywhere else has been a bumpy mess.
There is a fairly constant rotation of surfers coming and going from Bali. The Peak is busy most mornings. But sometimes, it takes everyone a while to get out of bed and find a coffee. The atmosphere in the lineup remains largely relaxed and friendly.
The season begins in earnest next week. When the first round of really consistent groundswell fills in. Surfers across the Indonesian archipelago will be rubbing their hands together in collective anticipation
