G’Day everyone, I thought today seeing as though surfing conditions are not the best to say the very least. So I thought I should try and explain what is actually happening weather wise to cause it all. I’m using the information supplied by Windy.com for this. Normally I compare as much data as I can find to piece together any of my own predictions on the daily basis for baliwaves.com
Ok so for the last few days we have seen strong W-WSW wind hammering us in Bali and pretty much everywhere across the Indonesian archipelago. If you check out our first image loaded you can see that there is a largish T/C spinning down off South Sumatra and West Java. This one has been sitting out there causing the strong wind that the T/C is feeding off. This system as you can see over the next 9 images I have is not moving anywhere to soon. If you look back East of Bali you can also see the start of another potential T/C forming off Sumba down towards Flores and Sumbawa.
The latter weather event or potential T/C East of Bali keeps growing throughout the next few images and then starts to move down towards north western Australia then tracks out into the Indian Ocean. Basically replacing the first T/C that was spinning under Sumatra and Java. But it is also moving away from us in Indonesia to the south.
You think that would be enough, but not yet. As there then is another T/C or tropical depression starting to form around Darwin that is predicted to track down towards Broom in Western Australia. So if these models run as predicted we may be looking at another week or so of strong wind and frequent rain associated with these tropical storms. Not much fun but it is that time of the year in the tropics. In my 28yrs of living here full time this wet season 2022 – 2023 has been one of the worst I have witnessed for bad weather, strong wind and small waves.
It can only get better people and usually after the first week of March this should be all behind us, I’m sure ready for Dry Season 2023, bring it on. But there is every chance that we will get more of these T/C’s before we hit the Dry
Nb: this is only my summary of what I am seeing on the internet weather forecasting websites
Stay tuned to the baliwaves and we will do our best to keep you up to date and in the loop with Bali’s surfing and weather conditions.
Best Regards from Bali
