Yesterday the 2nd and I only made it down to the beach here in South Kuta around 4pm. Pretty much due to the fact that it rained all day. Even at 4.00pm it was raining but when your boat (traditional) is on a mooring you tend to worry a bit when it rains non stop for the send day in a row. So at least I’ve been out for a swim the last couple and will be heading down to bail again this arvo. I didn’t take my phone yesterday as it was just 2 wet. I’ll see how I go today. But I can tell you there were no surfable waves between Kuta Reef and Airport Left yesterday afternoon.
This morning the 3rd after taking a serious look at the charts last night we made a decision to sneak over to the black sand for a just after dawn surf. It rained all the way over but let off long enough for us to snap a few photos and get a few waves.. As it shows in our gallery (wide angle due to no light) there were some nice waves ranging from waist to over head high. Coupled with a tide running in and clean off shore wind. Crowd wise there were already 7 surfers in the water on arrival, so we pretty much nailed it again.
Weather wise it was wild(ish) or well threatening rain all morning and at times it did rain on and off. Then around 8.30am the sun busted out and was intensely hot until the clouds rolled back over. Right now at 2.30pm it’s grey overcast with the temp on 29C, humidity is at 80%. Wind direction is now out of the ESE at 16km/h.
The next tide today in Bali will be a reef exposing 0.13mtr Low at 4.50pm. Our Bali calendar has a Full Moon rising tonight.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling for wave height to possibly drop off a smidgen but we will see the period grow quite a bit. Maybe late tomorrow afternoon we will see the start of a new moderate swell in transit to Indonesia.
I can remember a friend sending me a link to a very popular website that is mostly premium pay to view. The link that I laughed at back in Feb was a detailed report saying how dry a year Indo was in for this year. They also “predicted” very little swell heading to Indo. Well the next week we should see some very solid swells slamming into Bali. I’ve rarely ever taken much notice of corporate websites making calls for Indonesia from 1000’s of miles away. July is the first of our big swell months on average and we may even see the running of the Padang Padang Cup very soon.
