Well as most of us know, well those of us here in Bali anyway knew, the 4th (Happy 4th July) there wasn’t a lot happening surf wise here in Bali. Except for the sun actually coming out and the rain stopping for 24 hours. Yesterday the 5th and even though there were a few early signs of our new swell starting to show the weather turned back to crap and it rained on and off most of the day. Pretty much a good day for anyone who was suffering from a hang over.. Although I did get plenty of calls of solid swell hitting all along our beloved West coast through out the afternoon.
Today the 6th and we knew there was going to be swell and we were hoping for that perfect combo of just the right size 3-6′ (head to double head plus) with a light variable wind that produces those lovable glassy walls we crave for. Either way we had our sights set on the black sand beach made it there through a light drizzle just on sun rise. The best laid plans.. this morning the wind decided to kick in right on sunrise, a fresh Easterly around the 15-18km/h mark.
The tide was just on the bottom of the Low so there was a 99% chance that with the turn of the tide we would see some solid set waves. As it shows in some of our photos in this current gallery you can see there was some size but the wind was blowing cross shore straight into the waves. Not the best, but it did clean up a little as the wind shifted further around to the SE. Still, it was a good trade off with only a maximum crew in the water of less that 10 and all nice and friendly.
Weather wise it was ordinary, mostly grey and gloomy but with that lazy Bali midday 29C temp. Right now at 3.30pm it’s raining, not too heavily but a nice and consistent steady down pour. The temp is now 27C with the humidity at 87%. Wind direction is fresh out of the ESE at 29km/h.
The next tide today in Bali will be a 0.05mtr Low at 6.40pm
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling for wave height to peak late tonight and then slowly backing off to something similar in size to what we had today. Then further out backing off through the 7th and 8th before another new swell bumps Bali on the 9th – 10th. It doesn’t finish there either !

School Holidays are running in Bali and will be through until around the 12th of July. If you are already here in Bali you will have felt the traffic grid locks of an afternoon mostly with the holidaying domestic traffic. Or could it be from all the returning un vaccinated surfers flocking back to Bali now ? hehehe
Coming up here in Bali we have the Volcom Cloudfish digital surf event running right now and still plenty of time to enter, you can see the event details down the page. We also have the RipCurl Padang Padang Cup Trials on stand by right now. I’ll have a Press release from RipCurl on baliwaves very soon.
