The last few days I have been watching a little no wind zone bubble on the charts and with it still showing yesterday afternoon we hit the road early and headed for the black sand beach. I was a little bit worries about the swell size and just on sun rise this morning it was looking pretty mean but do able. Some solid triple head high plus set waves were breaking with a lot of thump in em, but the wind was clean off shore so we gave it a shot.
Our crew were lucky paddling out to an empty lineup and not even getting their hair wet. But it wasn’t long and there were a couple of smacking’s and 2 broken leggies. There were some very long rides on offer if you were patient with a little luck. As the tide continued to drop out wave height was slowly backing off but the wind was still clean off shore. By 9.45am the big set waves at disappeared leaving a super clean and glassy 3-4ft+. Crowd wise it only made it to 11 surfers. The ESE Trade wind eventually kick in but we were done by that time.
Weather wise it was grey and overcast all morning with a few drops of rain thrown into the mix. Right now at 4.00pm it’s still mostly overcast with the temp on 28C, humidity is at 81%. Wind direction is now SE at 28km/h.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for wave height to continue backing off with the period dropping from 16 seconds down to 14. The wind is predicted to be fresh out of the SE.
