****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Looking south the weather looked pretty grey and cloudy, while to the north it was clear blue skies and looking much like the day now looks outside at 2:30pm. I made the decision to head south and hope that the rain would have blown past by the time I arrived. I had not gone to far down the highway though and I was pulling over, ducking for cover under a side road warung and sheltering from the rain that was pouring down. I waited maybe half an hour and it had dryed up a little so I tried my luck only to end up soaked to the bone not much further down the road. I took shelter a second time and waited some more. Eventually I made it down to Uluwatu in to the warung by 9am.
By this time there was lots more blue sky, still a few clouds but no rain thank goodness. There was around 20+ surfers in the water on arrival spread between temples and the main peak but the tide was pretty full by this time. So not alot of action was going down. I spent a couple of hours sitting down looking at the waves and the circus that is Uluwatu these days, especially when it is this small. I watched many times as 4-6 surfers would paddle for the same wave, drop in, go over the falls, or just pull back when they were on the inside. Seriously somebody is really going hurt themselves and/or somebody else if these actions of less than capable surfers continue out in the lineup here.
Waves were in the 4ft range on the peak then running off in the 2-3ft range most of the time. It was not good Uluwatu by any means as the tide was high and it was not really offering to many open barrells. But there were waves and it was probably one of the better options if you could just get around all the wannabe’s. AS I was leaving at 11:30am the tide was starting to run out and I could see that things were going to improve as there was less water on the reef. The wind was a little side shore causing a bit of chop on the water.
Coming back past impossibles there was a 1-2ft wave running down the reef and I didn’t see anybody on that section. There was however a heap of people down on the beach at Padang Padang enjoying the calm conditions close to shore.
OK thats it for me, I hope you enjoy these latest shots as it was quite the effort to go and collect them today. till next time.

Just a quick up date on the traffic scene up in the Kuta area. I just did a quick trip into Kuta around past Kuta Beach through Poppies Lane 2 and back down Legian st to get back to laid back old Tuban. And I have to feel sorry for anyone staying up there at the moment, traffic city, kaos maniac drivers and riders Just to give it a quick summary…. Slim
****MIDDAY SURF UP-DATE****
Hello folks and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves for the latest news on todays surfing and weather conditions from your favourite holiday escape destination of Bali.
This mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was sadly, but as expectedly showing a distinctive drop in wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Not much out there for the boys today with only Airport left showing a waist to chest high wave. Nothing breaking on Kuta Reef or Middle Reef with this mornings 2.4mtr High Tide smoothering the reefs. Airports did look surfable and fun for a get wet type surf but that’s about it. Maybe when the tide runs back out for this afternoons 0.3mtr Low tide Middle Reef might have a smallie or two. Scotto hit the road for Uluwatu around 8 o’clock this morning and phoned through to say wave height was still hitting the Main Peak and Temple sections in the 2-3ft+ sector (chest to head high plus). So when Scott gets back from Ulu I’ll load you up some new photos from down there along with his full report on Uluwatu today.
Surfing conditions are ideal between Kuta and Uluwatu today with the off-shore ESE-SE Tradewind kicking in around 8.30am.
Our daily sms surf report from the G-Land Surf Camp was telling me that G-land is the place to be. Wave height over in East Java at the ever famous long left hander is still showing in the 3-5ft range (up to double head high). With a total of 6 surfers scattered down the reef at 8.00am….. Drop us a line if you want us to influence the owner of the G-Land Surf Camp for an extended 10% discount into G-land.
Weather wise here in the Tuban / Kuta area of Bali it’s been fine and sunny since day break with the midday temperature now sitting around the 30 degree Celsius mark. While further down South in the Bukit area there were some serious looking clouds brewing with a certainty of morning rain. The water temp along Bali’s West Coast is a perfect for a swim @ 23 degree’s Celsius.
If your planning a trip to Bali this year (and I know you are !!) feel free to drop me an email if you want a helping hand organising anything. Ok crew drop back by later this afternoon if you want a close up, full detail look at the waves down at Uluwatu today.
Back soon
