8th April 2011
Hi crew and welcome back to the baliwaves (’99) for the latest news on surfing and weather conditions from here on the No.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali.
As it shows in these current photos, we put in another big day yesterday. Hitting the highway well before dawn heading for the swell magnet location of Balian. As far as the 2 hour drive went it was reasonably smooth with our car only being forced off the road 1 time by a bus over taking another bus on a blind corner.
As you’ve already seen via the photos, wave height up on Bali’s North Western Coastline was still showing in the 3-4ft (head to well over head). With only 2 other surfers in the water and a clean off-shore wind. Surfing conditions stayed clean up until around 10.00AM when the wind shifted and then set in from the West South West. Driving back home the evidence of total reckless abandon on behalf of the truck drivers using the main route Bali – Java / Java -Bali was ever so clear. The normal 2 hr mission driving back home took us almost 6hrs and we counted 6 totally terminated trucks along the way. I only hope no inocent family cars were involved in their carnage…
Tidal info had a 0.5mtr Low @ 6.30AM and then running back up with a 2.5mtr High around 12.30PM.
Weather wise up the coast yesterday we didn’t get to see the sun, solid cloud cover and a very warm and humid 29 degree’s Celsius. Looking back towards Kuta it was as black as the ace of spades.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta (Bemo Corner) — 1AU$=Rp9,075 —
That’s it for now but we’ll be heading back out again for another session shortly, so stay tuned to the one and only original Bali surf report.

Hi to all crew of Baliwaves, i really like your website and i check your reports everyday it’s great. I just want to say something important, i think, about the respect that EVERYONE must know in the water about each other. Everyone must be polite when he just arrive in the water it’s not hard to say hi to peoples already here before you and i think everybody know that at Baliwaves! But i was really surprised when this surfer with the BLUE WETSUIT came in the water and i was smiling for saying Hi to him but he just looked at me straight without said something… like i’m his worst enemy… All the others surfers from Baliwaves was friendly but i will not forget that one! Please Baliwaves i saw he spoke with your crew outside and smile or whatever but you must teach him the respect of each others in the water same if we are not local LIKE HIM! iwas disapointed to see a man like that in your team… thanks a lot and see you soon for another session…

Hi Umberto π
Sorry but I don’t really get to pick my “team”, they kinda pick me bro. But you’ll always find someone in the water like that, no matter where you surf at in the World. Don’t let it get you down ok π

I believe the office has got back to you by now Darren π

Thanks for your quick answer. Peoples like that will never get me down but opposite! Just don’t accept people like that to pick you just for have his pics on your nice site! or teach them the rules and respect in the water before it… they could be boss manager or whatever outside but in the water we are all same!

Bro I’m really happy to hear that you still have these thoughts about people respecting each other in the surf…. but the reality of it is a little different. I don’t teach people surf etiquette or about respecting other people. That’s something everyone should learn when they are learning to surf or by their parents and teachers π
Lets face it, is there really a less self centered, selfish sport than surfing in the year 2011 ?
In the water we are not all the same, I would never agree to that one Umberto, but on land….. every Tom, Dick & Harry looks like a surfer these days………

“look like a surfer” you’re right, LOOK LIKE! in the water we can see the difference about who can surf or not, so we’re all different about that i agree. But i mean about the rules, all of us must face the sames and we must respect these rules! just say Hi to someone smiling to you and said “hello” it’s not so hard same if he’s fat boy… whatever, you’re right too, maybe his parents never teach him the right way…
