BALI
21st February 2015
Hey howdy folks and thanks for dropping into your baliwaves.com (The one and only original Bali surf report since back in 1999) for the latest news and some hard to beat views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the Worlds No.1 tropical surfing holiday haven of BALI.
Yes that is correct, back in Bali after what ended up being a massive 20 days off island yew. But of course it was so good to get back over to Australia and catch up with some of the good guys and to help out at my Mum’s while she was recovering from an operation (taxi driver). I never got that big Lotto win I’ve been on the hunt for since day 1 so I guess I’ll just have to keep on doing what we do best. I actually arrived back into Bali on the 19th but my head has still been in transit the last 48hrs but starting to shake it off now.
On the surfing scene, our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing wave height still holding in the 2-2ft+ range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. At the time the tide was just starting to run back in and the wind on shore out of the W-WNW, no surfers in the water.
We were expecting a small pulse in size today showing over on the East Coast of Bali, so that’s what direction I pointed Ketut in to go and shoot some new ones for us. And as it shows in today’s 62 strong photo gallery there were some nice waves indeed, pushing that solid 4ft range on the bigger set waves. While the main break had 20 – 25 surfers on it as the tide was still pushing in, CP’s only had 5 in the water and also barreling.
Weather wise it’s been a mixed bag that’s for sure. Early morning cloud before clearing up before mid morning then some more serious midday / early afternoon storm activity with rain and strong wind. Now at 4.30PM there still is a bit of light drizzle rain outside but the wind has gone.
Now, about 10 days or so ago we posted a photo of what looked to be a distressed Dolphin trying to beach itself at Padang Galak and a local trying to push / drag the Dolphin back out into the water and safety. Well after a little more investigating I found out that the reason the Dolphin was trying to get out of the water was because it had been shot by a spear gun and was probably being hassled by sharks, not too mention hurting terminally . The Dolphin apparently had a spear hole going all the way through from one side to the other. So if you know anyone who has lost their spear gun in the last 2 weeks could be them who pulled the trigger ?
