**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Hey crew, well the winds being playing games today swinging around to almost all points of the compass and when she finally decided to settle in it was from the SSW. Pretty well on-shore everywhere here along the West coast and cross/off-shore over on the East side of Bali. The swell is still hanging in there and currently around the 2-4ft range on the Outer Reefs of Tuban, dropping off a touch from earlier this morning. Hopefully there’ll still be some waves around tomorrow with the early morning looking to be the best time to get in the water. Tune back in then and I’ll give ya’s the news of Bali’s surf and weather conditions, ok.
**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy folks and welcome back to another week of baliwaves ! There were a few nice waves hitting the reef at Uluwatu yesterday while I was down on location. I arrived @ 9.30am with the tide already on the way back in and only 9 surfers in the water at the time. There were a few 2-4 footers reeling down the Racetrack but pretty testy and breaking just a bit quick for the crew in the water. As the tide filled in towards midday the surfers seemed to be coming outta the wood work everywhere and the number of surfers quickly boosted to 50-60, spread out from the Main Peak through to the Racetrack. Wave height was also creeping up in size through the day and when I packed up there were solid 5 foot plus sets hitting the Main Peak. The wind direction was all over the place constantly swinging from ESE around to SSW, backwards and forwards, until around 2.30pm when it settled into the SSE and off/cross-shore at Uluwatu. I was talking to some surfers who paddled out at Uluwatu and they were pretty disgusted with some of the behavour by other tourists in the surf, agro and intimidation. Not by the locals mind you but from French surfers / Americans and Australians. I even saw some idiot trying to spear his board at another surfer. What the farks going on, arn’t ya supposed to be happy when your on holidays ? So remember to leave that weatern bullshit at home if your coming over to Bali and you’ll have a much better time. The local surfers when they see this crap going on will usually send the agro surfers out of the line-up. Anyway, this morning and there’s 3-5 footers hitting the Outer Reefs here in Tuban. I went down for a 6.30am surf recon, the tide was still dropping for a 0.4mtr Low set for 9.00am. But when it starts to push back in Kuta Reef and the Airport Reefs are gunna be cranking. As it was Middle Reef already had a couple of surfers in the water riding waves upta 5ft or double head high. Hardly any wind just yet, but what there was of it was coming outta the SSE @ 1-2knot and off/cross-shore from Uluwatu to Legian. If conditions stay clean on the Outer Reefs I’m gunna go and snap a few photos of Kuta Reef for ya’s, when I’ve got all this done that is. More good news dept: As you lot know we’ve been running a promo for a non profit organisation that help out Orphaned Balinese children from the poorest districts of Bali. Well I received some feed back from Carol Sasak (founder) yesterday thanking baliwaves and all the people who have been in contact with her wanting to help the children get some schooling and to be part of a normal family. Carol has also told me that while she has been out of office her PC dumped 100’s of emails, lost the lot. So if anyone has been trying to contact Carol PLEASE try again and you will get through to her. I’d like to thank the good people who have offered to help turn around the lives of these poor little kids, THANKS CREW !!!! While I’m at it Mr Tony Garcia who is the author of some great surfing related (fiction) books has donated a heap of his latest novels for me to give away to anyone who can take part in sponsoring a Balinese Orphan. These books are a good read (red em all) and relate to surfing around, Bali / G-Land / South America and a heap of other locations. So drop me a line and I’ll send ya some books ! You can also check Tony’s website for a look at his work at www.soldierboy.com If anyone out there has a good product that’s made for travelling surfers you should drop me an email and we’ll help ya target your market. This year we had a heap of drama’s with the running of baliwaves.com and we were still managing to attract 70,000 unique viewers per month and up ta 20,000 page views per day. I think we’ve got a good product ! So drop us a line. Now’s a good time to start organising your friends for your next indonesian surfing adventure in ’07.
