**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy folks and welcome back to the baliwaves.Today here in Bali is “Hari Raya Kuningan” and another very special day for the Balinese Hindu Religion. It’s also supposed to be a holiday, but I’m not so lucky hey. As ya’s can see I did make the run down to Uluwatu yesterday and surfing conditions were pretty clean and smooth with wave height upta double head high (5ft old school). There was a healthy turn up for the occassion with something like 50 surfers spread across the reef from Temple’s through the Main Peak and down to the Racetrack. I don’t think there wouldnt be too many more surfers than that in Bali at the moment ? You can also probably tell that these images are not photos but “frame grabs” from the DV footage I was shooting (as soon as I’ve typed up this I’m gunna start cutting up some video clips for ya’s so you can see exactly what it was like. Earlier this morning when I went down for the surf recon of the Outer Reefs of Tuban there were some nice little waves coming through on Middle Reef while the tide was just about on the bottom of a 0.1 mtr reef exposing Low water mark. Actual wave height between Kuta Reef and Airports was only in the 2-3ft+ range and Middle Reef was getting the lions share of it. So I’d imagine at the same time the Racetrack section at Uluwatu woulda been going off with at least 3-4ft+ waves. Earlier there was bugger all wind, just noticible coming outta the ENE @ 0-1knot. Then some time around 9.30am it shifted around to the SSW, on-shore @ 4-8knot. Weather wise today it’s been cloudy, hot and humid but no rain has fallen at this point in time. Ok with that all said and done I’d just like to clear something up. I’ve had a couple of International visitors to Bali mention to me the subject of Jimbaran Bay Seafood Cafe’s. This is how it went, “whats the big deal about having dinner at Jimbaran Bay.” “The food was only standard but the price was very expensive” Well to save you lot having the same experience this is how it works. There’s always someone your gunna meet here in Bali that wants to take you to “The Bay” for dinner, count on it. The reason being that your “guide” has an arrangement with the cafe to increase the price so the “so called guide” makes a fat 40% commission off your bill total. There’s a squillion good restaurants here in Bali that you can find and experience for yourself without getting ripped off. What I’ll do is start to tell you about some of my favourites, and ya won’t have to worry about being jacked. The most important thing about having you here in Bali is, that you have a good holiday.
