**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning surfers and welcome to the Sunday edition of baliwaves. Talking to the crew here at Home Base Bali yesterday afternoon, the boys reckoned their first surf check on the East Coast was at Nusa Dua . Solid waves in the 6 foot plus range but pretty wild and wooly from the wind blowing on/cross-shore outta the SSW they gave that a miss. They then moved up the coast a bit to Sri-Lanka where they settled on some much cleaner 2-3 footers (shoulder to head high), sharing them with only 5 other surfers. There was no sign of “Devis” (Team Quicksilver) yesterday afternoon so I haven’t got a clue what went down at Keramas . This mornings surfing conditions here along the West Coast of Bali are looking very dismal indeed. I was down doing the surf check of the Outer Reefs @ 6.30am, looking at Kuta Reef across to Airport lefts . Wave height has increased in size, slightly, with around 2-4ft of blown out mush from the howling South – South South Westerly on-shore wind coming in at 12-15knot+. The tide was also just passing the top of the High water mark, according to my 10 year old Rip Curl time and tide watch. So needless to say that the whole West Coast of Bali plus the South Eastern end of Bali will be not much good for anyone looking for a surf (plenty of swell though). Best bet for a wave today would be over at Serangan where at least the wind direction would be more like cross/off-shore. Over at LAKEY PEAK on the island of Sumbawa Made’s sms surf report says that wave height has also increased, slightly, up into the 1-2 foot range (waist to shoulder high) on lakey Peak. Swell direction is coming outta the SW on a period of 16 seconds, so there’s a big chance for a further increase in size through out the day. There was no wind at lakey’s through the early AM (7.30am) and there were 8 surfers out having some fun on the left and right peak while the tide was still high enough. Total number of International surfers in the entire area remains at 25, divide that by the 8 hotels in the area and you can tell that the locals are doing it pretty tough. Ok here’s a tip for you surfers emailing me for info on what month does the wind change, what month is the surf good, etc. Take a look through our SURF REPORT ARCHIVE and you can easily find that kinda information, it’s there for you guys to help better plan your next Bali surfing adventure. I don’t think you’ll find it in a “surf guide type book”. Outside weather conditions around Tuban this morning are, windy with some cloud still hanging about but come midday it should be just another hot and humid day with the temperature in the low 30’s Celcius. The water temperature along the beach breaks yesterday was pretty good @ 24 degree’s Celcius with plenty of people splashing about making the most of it. Ok guys ‘n girls I hope ya’s have a good one today. Stay tuned and stay true to the baliwaves an I’ll be back with more of the latest surf ‘n weather info from your No.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali as it happens.
