**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy crew and welcome to the Sunday edition of baliwaves.com surf and weather run down. Well just about “on any Sunday” you’ll find good waves happening all over Bali and today was certainly no exception. I made my first recon of surfing conditions down at the Outer Reefs here in tube’n Tuban and I was tempted to get straight out there for a paddle… Wave height was rollin through in the 2-4ft range bewteen Kuta Reef and Airports . Wind direction was coming cleanly off-shore outta the East @ 1-2knot with a falling tide. Kuta Reef and Airports were ordinary at 2-2ft+ but Middle Reef was peeling off 2-4 footers and looking real clean. There were in fact 2 or 3 cluey buggers already out there @ 6.45am. But conditions were too good to by-pass a trip down to Uluwatu , I mean, Ulu is the No.1 draw card for a Bali surfing sojourn isn’t it. Anyway I finally got me and my motor bike down on location by 9.15am (you guys are in for a treat with the new bitch-a-men road the’ve put in all the way to the bridge over Padang Padang ). Speaking of which as I went over that bridge on the way down I could see clean and glassy waves running down the length of Impossible’s Reef in the 2-3ft range, but with no surfers in the water. Uluwatu on the other hand had something like 10 surfers in the water and surfing conditions were almost dry seasonish. Wave height was peaking at 4-5ft with the focus being out on the Main Peak section, but there was still plenty running right through to the Racetrack as well. I tell ya’s it was real good to spend the day hanging out in my favourite cliff side cafe, so bring on the West Coast , for that real taste of Bali ! I reckon the crowd woulda peaked at somewhere around 30 surfers spread out from the Peak down to the Track and then there was maybe another 4-6 surfers riding up at Temple’s . The wind stayed clean and calm through to 10.30am before making a switch around to the South but still relatively stable @ 3-6knot. Weather wise she’s been a pearler of a day with just that deep blue sky over us. There is some big fluffy type cloud out on the Western horizon that might drift in later tonight. Made has also filed his Lakey Peak sms surf report from the island of Sumbawa and says that wave height has backed off to the shoulder high range this morning. There were 12 surfers riding on the Peak and another 2 surfers over on Lakey Pipe . Surfing conditions were ultra clean and glassy with no wind at all through the early am. The total number of international surfers staying in the area is at 40. Just to let ya’s know a little about the Lakey area dept: For starters the poor old hotel owner’s over there don’t have one website on-line between them. There are only booking agents who own the actual sites for the lakey area. There are something like 6-8 hotels available in the area with price’s starting at AU$7.00 up to AU$25.00 per night for a single room. Flights are easily booked from here in Bali flying with Merpati airlines and they except surfboards of all shapes and sizes at no extra cost. Once you hit Bima airport on Sumbawa you then need transport for the 2hr drive to Lakey’s. If you want more info you can check out the Lakey Peak info page right here on the baliwaves menu link, or simple drop us an email. We can help get anyone across to Lakey’s at cost price, why ? because I’ve got a lot of good friends (locals) over there and I like to see them working. For that they need you over there ! Ok that just about does me for today, but I did manage to shoot ya’s another 20 minutes of high quality Digital Video footage and I’ll get that on-line for ya’s tomorrow. If ya wanna see what the local Quicksilver Indonesia Team Grommet boys have been upto “down under” check out the “stories” section on baliwaves.com. If your interested in renting a private bungalow in the Kuta area this year check out the baliwaves “buisiness directory” Or if ya just want some general Bali surfing info or say G’day to Slim then drop us an email !
