**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy folks, thanks for droppin in for another day of baliwaves. Well yesterday I never made it out for that surf at Kuta Reef cause by 10.30am the wind was coming outta the SSW @ 5-9knot and on-shore right along the West Coast, and just about all of the east side as well. This morning when I went down for the surf recon of the Outer Reefs the wave situation wasn’t looking too good either. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airports has dropped off and down in the 1-2ft+ range, maybe there’s the odd 3 footer still coming through but I didn’t see any in the 20 minutes that I was watching. No surfers were out at Kuta Reef and wave height was only just hitting the 2 foot mark out there while the tide was pushing in for a 1.8mtr High @ 10.00am. There were half a dozen surfers sitting on Middle Reef and that’s where the biggest waves were coming through, up ta head high. Airport Left had a small army of Japanese surfers out there catching waves upta 2ft or shoulder high, take ya pick. Wind direction was coming straight outta the South this morning @ 2-5knot so actual surfing conditions were still pretty clean. It’s anyone’s guess what will happen by mid morning wind wise so I’d say the best surfing conditions are right about now (8.30am). I’ll be keeping an eye on conditions cause I’m stingin for a surf myself ! Made has filed his sms surf report from Lakey Peak on the ever popular surfing island of Sumbawa and says; wave height has also dropped off today, with Lakey Peak only attracting 1-2 footers with 15 surfers picking off the perfect little left and rights. No wind over at Lakey’s just yet so surfing conditions were glassy and the tide just right, rising. The total number of surfers visiting the island has jumped to 50, don’t forget to check the tide situation first if your planning on heading over ok. Weather wise around Tuban this morning we do have a bit of cloud hanging about (an I’m already sweating, no A/C luxuary for this boy…) but we’re gunna be in for more warm to hot temperature around the beach again today. The water temp is still perfect for surfing and swimming @ 24 degree’s Celcius. We also have the NEW MOON happening today so we’re gunna be in for some extra big tide range over the next few days. A few of the guests from here at HOME BASE Bali have headed up to Keramas for the early paddle so I’ll be able to give ya’s the run down on the waves later this evening ok. Yesterday I was pretty busy so I only managed to get ya’s one video clip loaded up, but do make sure ya check it out cause it feature’s Devis Ratif, the ripster who rides for Quiksilver Indonesia . Devis is one of the more laid back surfers from Bali, but even though last year he managed to win a few of the major surfing contests here in Indo. I’m pretty sure you guys are gunna be seeing and hearing a lot more from this guy. This year on baliwaves.com we plan to feature as many of the local surfers as we can ! Just switching back to Lakey Peak for a minute I’d just like to let ya’s know a little bit about the Lakey area. For starters the poor old hotel owner’s over there don’t have one website on-line between them. There are only booking agents who own the actual sites for the lakey area. There are something like 6-8 hotels available in the area with price’s starting at AU$7.00 up to AU$25.00 per night for a single room. Flights are easily booked from here in Bali flying with Merpati airlines and they except surfboards of all shapes and sizes at no extra cost. Once you hit Bima airport on Sumbawa you then need transport for the 2hr drive to Lakey’s. If you want more info you can check out the Lakey Peak info page right here on the baliwaves menu link, or simple drop us an email. We can help get anyone across to Lakey’s at cost price, why ? because I’ve got a lot of good friends (locals) over there and I like to see them working. For that they need you over there ! Ok then that’s about us for now, now I’m gunna cut ya’s a few more video clips to drool at. Cause I reckon if a picture paints a thousand words, what’s a video clip worth ? If ya wanna see what the local Quicksilver Indonesia Team Grommet boys have been upto “down under” check out the “stories” section on baliwaves.com. If your interested in renting a private bungalow in the Kuta area this year check out the baliwaves “buisiness directory” Or if ya just want some general Bali surfing info or say G’day to Slim then drop us an email ! For now have a good one out there and stay happy what eva ya do, see ya’s over here at Home Base Bali real soon !
