**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Hey howdy folks and thanks for hanging around and it was worth it cause today we scored some beautiful waves over on the East Coast of Bali at Keramas . And on days like today we bust out the 1000mm lens and 14 mega pixel camera so we can get as close to the action as we can, that’s what it’s all about, detail and action ! Anyway I got my first look at the surf here on the Outer Reefs at 5.45am and there were some nice waves peeling off at Kuta Reef in the 2-3ft range. Middle Reef was also looking good and slightly bigger in the 3-3ft+ class while Airport Left wasn’t too bad either at 2-3 foot. An all waves were going un-ridden at that time of the morning. We arrived up at Keramas around 6.45am to find only 2 surfers in the water and perfect 2-4 footers barreling across the reef. There wasn’t any wind at the time and surfing conditions were pristine up until around 9.00am when the wind started to blow outta the North @ 2-5knot. There she stayed until around 10.30am before turning more to the W-SW. The tide was still running out through the early part of the morning but it didn’t really go to low and the best conditions were definitly between 7.00-9.00am. Reports in from Serangan were of 2-3 foot waves and clean surfing conditions along with 70+ surfers in the water by 10.00am. I’ve had two sms surf reports in from lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa this morning, from our man on the scene Made, and visiting surfer James Girvan from North Sydney. The boys said that wave height was holding in the 2-3ft range (head high) and only 10 surfers in the water at 8.30am. Absolutely no wind over at Lakey’s through the morning and the boys were surfing clean and glass like waves. The total number of international surfers staying over there is @ 38. Just to let ya’s know a little about the Lakey area dept: For starters the poor old hotel owner’s over there don’t have one website on-line between them. There are only booking agents who own the actual sites for the lakey area. There are something like 6-8 hotels available in the area with price’s starting at AU$7.00 up to AU$25.00 per night for a single room. Flights are easily booked from here in Bali flying with Merpati airlines and they except surfboards of all shapes and sizes at no extra cost. Once you hit Bima airport on Sumbawa you then need transport for the 2hr drive to Lakey’s. If you want more info you can check out the Lakey Peak info page right here on the baliwaves menu link, or simple drop us an email. We can help get anyone across to Lakey’s at cost price, why ? because I’ve got a lot of good friends (locals) over there and I like to see them working. For that they need you over there ! Weather wise around Bali today we have had a real hot one over here and the temperature woulda had to have ben pushing close to the mid 30’s Celcius, outta the shade, no rain fall to mention around these parts of the island. Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta 1AU$=Rp6,925 – 1US$=Rp8,975. I also shot ya’s a bit of digital video footage of todays action at Keramas and I’ll get that on-line for ya’s as soon as I can, probably tomorrow. There were also some decent bodyboarders out through the early morning getting shacked and I’ll throw some of those photos on the bodyboarding page likewise for tomorrow. Plus we’ll keep all the surfing and weather info flowing right through the entire weekend so keep in touch with your Bali right here. If ya wanna see what the local Quicksilver Indonesia Team Grommet boys have been upto “down under” check out the “stories” section on baliwaves.com.
