**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy folks and welcome back to your baliwaves.com daily Bali surf and weather check website. Alright we better get straight into it this morning as I wanna get out and try and shoot ya’s some fresh video footage. I’ve just got back from checking surfing conditions down on the Outer Reefs of Tuban now @ 8.30am and there are some waves to be had in the 2-4ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . The tide was just on the bottom of a 0.7mtr Low so it was still a bit too shallow for Kuta Reef but there was one lone local surfer out there getting a few 2 footers. Airport Left was also in the waist to shoulder high range (2ft) and there were a couple of surfers on there way out there. Middle Reef was very surfable at 2-4ft and better suited to the lower end of the tide, but no one in the line-up as yet. Wind direction was coming outta the WNW @ 2-5knot, on-shore but surfing conditions here along the West Coast are still pretty clean. Weather wise we’ve got blue sky up stairs and she’s shaping up for a warm to hot day here on the holiday island of Bali. Made has also filed in his sms surf report from Lakey Peak and he says that wave height is still coming through in the 2-3ft+ range on Lakey Peak and surfing conditions are ultra clean and glassy with the slightest touch of off-shore breeze hitting it. There were 15 surfers in the water on lakey Peak @ 7.45am but no one in the water on Lakey Pipe just yet. The winner of the Rip Curl (Indonesia) surfing contest held on Lakey Peak yesterday was local surfer “O-ne Anwar” Made also mentiones that there were in fact 2 surfboards broken in half in the 2-3ft+ waves. The total number of visiting International surfers in the Lakey area has dropped back to 35. Ray has also sent through a pretty detailed report from the Kandui Surf Resort up in the Mentawai chain and here it is. Sorry for the absence! We had a little gap between guests and we were busy sprucing up the place. For those of you that might be wondering how the conditions have been, that expected storm never lived up to the forecasts. The winds were still pretty strong from the north and west for a couple of days and the surf was smaller than it had been for our first group of guests. The conditions have been good since though with light and variable winds, but the surf has been a little on the small size. There was some reports of shoulder high Nipusi and head high Burgerworld. The surf started to pick up yesterday and I heard Burgerworld was a little overhead and all time. For you unbelievers out there, Burgerworld gets really good! They were getting shacked out there! This morning the surf had increased even a little more and the wind was blowing out of the east all day, not a very common occurrence, at about 5 mph and a little stronger at times. Our new guests arrived about 9am and they were frothing for a surf. They got a little breakfast and then we took off. First stop was Hideaway s to see if we could get lucky with the light east winds, but the swell was not quite getting in there. Second stop, Nipusi ! There the conditions were good, the waves were 2 feet overhead, and there were only 3 local boys out. Most of the guys on the boat headed out there while me and our guest Dave went out to Bankvaults where the size was about the same, but the waves were a little “kurang bagus” (less than good) with the light east winds crumbling the lips and not allowing the tubes to open up good. All the guests were stoked with their first surf. So nice to get here and jump in that warm water and surf quality, uncrowded surf. We stayed out quite a while and realized when we jumped back in the boat that we would not have time to get back to the resort for a late lunch and be able to get an afternoon surf. We had the usual supply of cokes, juices, fruit, cookies, etc., so we decided to make that our lunch and look for a left for the goofy foots. We had a look at E-Bay where conditions were perfect but the waves were only marginally ridable at waist high, so we made the short hop to Beng Beng where conditions were also perfect and it was a little bigger with shoulder high plus waves coming through and no one out. Everyone surfed again and had a really good time. We headed back with some light left. We were all surfed out and ready for a Bintang. Hoping for a little bigger swell tomorrow. Sounds like Ray really make’s sure his guests are surfed out at the end of each day ! If you want to get in touch with Ray you can email him directly on [email protected]
