**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Hello again folks and thanks for dropping by. But unfortunately it’s been one of those days and I never made the trip over to the East Coast. But seeing as though at 2.15pm, just as I was getting ready to go over there the wind swung around to the East and back to off-shore here along the West Coast . So I thought I’d better have a dig into the Uluwatu photo archives and help get ya’s ready for it. My last surf check of the Outer reefs was around 4.15pm and there were some nice little waves breaking on all sections from Kuta Reef to Airport Left . Kuta Reef looked the most fun at a clean and tidy 2-3ft and only somewhere like 10 surfers in the line-up. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll get another slight bump in size or at the least still in the same range as today. So don’t expect to see the morning surf up-date happening until I get back from Uluwatu . Talk to ya’s then !
**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** G’day crew and welcome aboard the baliwaves surf and weather report machine. Well yesterday there wasn’t much change in surfing conditions here along Bali’s West Coast with the wind continuing outta the W-SW through out the day. This morning though it’s a slightly different ball game. My 6.45am surf recon of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing a new swell hitting town. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left has started to increase and was already getting into the 2-4ft range. Kuta Reef was picking up 2-2ft+ and there were a few ridable ones coming through on the set waves. Middle Reef as usual was picking up the most of it with the bigger ones breaking in the 2-4ft range. Slightly smaller again down on Airport Lefts , indicating the change in swell direction at only 1-2ft. No surfers were in the water on any of the big 3 and surfing conditions were pretty clean from the lack of on-shore wind. Infact there was no wind at all while I was down the beach. So as you can picture, there’d be waves breaking at just about every location on both sides of the island this morning. Even now at 9.30am the wind is still pretty light coming outta the WNW @ 2-5knot. Hardly any tidal difference happening today, we did have a 1.4mtr High tide @ 8.00am this morning with the Low tide of 1.3mtrs around 1.30pm and then filling in with another slightly bigger High around sunset time. Weather wise around Tuban this morning everythings looking good with nothing but blue sky as far as I can see. More warm to hot holiday temperature’s for the beach lovers and the water temp is faultless at 24-5 degree’s Celcius. I’m going to be heading off with the video equipment as soon as I get this report up and get ya’s some fresh video so ya’s can have a detailed look at Bali’s waves. I’m not sure where I’ll be shooting at so ya better tune in later this evening and check it out yaself. Over to Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa `and Made has sms’d through his surf report saying that wave height has dropped down to 1-2ft but there were still a few clean and glassy waves coming through for the 15 surfers on the Peak and 2 surfers on Lakey Pipe @ 8.00am. There were also some new arrival’s to lakey’s yesterday, according to Made, pushing the total number of visiting International surfers back to something like 40. Up to the Mentawai’s, Ray from the famous Kandui Surf Resort has reported in and goes like this. Light northwest wind to start the morning today. Swell was a little smaller and a little more south. The sun was shining bright with hardly a cloud in the sky. We figured we would take a look at Nipusi to see how much swell was left over there. The waves were only head high with a little plus now and then, but we decided to give it a try seeing how good the conditions were and seeing that no one was out. Half went out at Nipusi and half went out at Bankvaults . All of us got bored pretty fast with the smallish swell so we packed it up and went to Burgerworld. Burgerworld being the swell magnet that it is, waves were much bigger there with sets 3 feet overhead and conditions were good. There were a couple of boats there, but there were plenty of waves for everybody. The winds turned south around midday and one boat left. More waves for us! We surfed until mid afternoon when our arms were tired and our stomachs were growling. After lunch some decided to stick close to the resort and surf 4 Bobs , which was around shoulder high on the sets, and the rest of us decided to chill. All the surfing and sun was starting to take a toll! Expecting smaller surf tomorrow. You can email Ray direct on: [email protected]
