MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning folks and welcome back to the baliwaves.com daily (7/7) surf and weather report. Well last night I had checked all my camera gear ready for my 7.00am departure for Uluwatu . But this morning I was woken up by a solid thunder and lightning show, not too mention the torrential rain that kept on coming down until around 10.00am. So right now at 11.00am I’ve only just made it down for a look at today’s wave situation on the Outer Reefs of Tuban. The tide was just about right on the bottom of the Low but there was still enough water covering the reef for surfing, Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left has dropped back through the night into the 1-3ft range. There wasn’t much happening out on Kuta Reef only picking 1-2 footers and I didn’t see anyone out there at the time. Middle Reef had some nice little waves upta head high peeling off for the half a dozen or so surfers on it. While Airport Left seemed to be breaking the most consistently at 1-2ft+, there were already about 6 boats parked in the channel across from the waves so I’d imagine there’s a big crew of Japanese surfers out there. The wind was coming lightly outta the ESE @ 1-3knot and off-shore along Bali ’s West coastline. It’s pretty calm at the moment but will more than likely pick up in strength by midday. Uluwatu would be my pick of locations this morning and you’d find wave height to be still pushing the 4ft range as the tide starts to run back up. Unfortunately there’s still some nasty big black clouds hanging over the Southern end of the island, so I won’t be riding my old motor bike down there today sorry. What I have done is made 2 NEW VIDEO CLIPS for the bodyboarding minority and cut some new images to go with em. I’ve gotta give some praise to the chiropractor that’s taken care of my trick back the last week. Here’s the website address where you can find out more information etc etc www.globalchiro.net Now I advise any of you surfers coming over to Bali to remember this cause sometimes it only takes one bad wipe-out and your gunna be needing their help. Ok then that’s me for now, have a good one even if your not hear in Bali yet !
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Made has sms’d through his surf report direct from Lakey Peak and says that wave height has also dropped off from yesterday and now down in the 1-2ft+ range for the 10 surfers that were out on Lakey Peak at the time. There were also another 8 surfers sitting across the channel on the more hollow Lakey Pipe section. The total number of visiting surfers staying in the area has risen slightly to 45
Kandui Surfing Resort in the Mentawai island’s. 12th April 07 ; Looking nice and glassy this morning as I got up, but it didn’t take long before a west wind started to blow. Our first boat took off looking for surf just after itstarted and didn’t like what they were seeing condition wise, so they ended upcoming back and surfing 4 Bobs. It was around shoulder high and really fun when a big one came in. The second boat left not too long after the first, but by the time they got to Nipusi the winds had gone more northwest and conditions were not bad there. They surfed there all morning and had fun. One more guest (Jevon, a return guest) and I took a third boat up to Last Resorts. It had enough north in the wind for it to have good conditions and the waves were going a couple of feet overhead. It was a little tough finding one that connected, but nobody was out and we endedup getting a few fun ones. The afternoon crew went back to Nipusi where conditions were still good. There were a few people on it, but our guys got some good ones. A few of the guests that stuck around the resort went out to 4 Bobs where it was still shoulder high and good conditions, although it was getting
inconsistent. Looking for the surf to drop a little more tomorrow.
Kandui Surfing Resort in the Mentawai island’s. 11th April 07; It was a transition day today with our new guests arriving this morning and our old guests leaving this evening. We had two pretty big groups so we were at maximum capacity for a few hours. We had four boats standing by for everyone. Two boats left with our old guests early in the morning, then the two others left later after our new guests checked in and had some breakfast. Conditions were good with light and variable winds all day, mostly going light south the second half of the day. And, although the swell was decreasing, there was still plenty of surf to go around One of our boats ended up at Hideaways where it was still a couple of feet over head and glassy. Only a couple of other guy’s out. Another ended up at Beng Beng. The guys had many good sessions there this past week so they were stoked to get one last good session in with nobody else out. A boat load of our new guys went to Bankvaults and Nipusi where it was double overhead and OK conditions with the light south winds. Our last boat ended up at Kandui’s. I haven’t mentioned that spot for a while! It woke up today with waves coming in a couple of feet over head and glassy conditions with nobody else out. Being the wave that it is, of coarse there were some nice barrels. Sam, the best surfer on the trip, got some really nice tubes. It was his best session on the trip and he would go home with a smile on his face. The rest of the day we spent surfing 4 Bobs, John Candy’s, and Karambat left; all the spots that are closest to the resort, where it was still head high and good conditions prevailed. The rest of the guys spent the afternoon drinking free Bintang during happy hour (a transition day treat) and getting to know each other before our old guests took off after an early dinner. Expecting the swell to drop further tomorrow.
