MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy crew and welcome back to baliwaves.com. Sorry about yesterday I didn’t even get to take a look at the waves as I couldn’t get my head off the pillow. But I’m very happy to say I’m feeling much better and was doing your morning surf check of the Outer Reefs at 7.00am. Wave height has dropped off (I was told by some fishermen friends who were just back from hauling in their cray nets). There was one or two surfers on Kuta Reef and it was breaking with perfect shape but lacking in size at 1-2ft. Middle Reef had a few more riders in the water getting slightly bigger action at 1-2ft+. Airport Left was probably looking the best and more consistent of the big three but still mainly in that 1-2ft+ size, waist to shoulder high. The tide was pretty well on the bottom of the Low water line and the wind was light off-shore coming outta the NE @ 1-3knot. Uluwatu would be the best bet for waves today and you could count on finding some waves in the 2-4ft range for sure. Weather wise outside right now we’ve got some cloud still loitering around and there’s been a few drops of rain. All the same we’ll still be seeing the mercury bust into the 30”s on the Celsius scale, and just another average day in the tropics. I’m also thinking that we shouldn’t have to wait too long before we’ll be seeing a new swell happening, cause there’s plenty of it in transit to Bali at the moment. Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta and you’d find that: –1AU$=Rp7,490 – 1US$=Rp9,050. Me I’ve gotta make up for yesterdays, down day. That means getting those new video clips cut and loaded for ya’s, then I better get on the email answering program. Ok then have a good one what ever ya got on today, and if there’s any significant change on the ocean I’ll let ya’s know !
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa; Made has sms’d through his surf report from over at Lakey’s and says that wave height has also dropped off slightly down in to the 1-3ft range, head high on the set waves. There were 15 surfers in the water on the The Peak and across the channel on lakey Pipe the line-up was empty. Made’s head count on the total number of visiting surfers in the area is at 58.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 17th April ’07 ; Our latest southwest swell literally dropped of the map by this morning. I didn’t see a rideable wave at 4 Bobs. The day had Burgerworld written all over it, but the winds were out of the southeast and, although not that strong, it was enough to steer the crew to Beng Beng where conditions were good. It was pretty small, maybe chest high sets, but there was no one else around and it was a fun way to spend our current guest’s last day here in the Ments. The winds turned and came from the east at a pretty good clip around midday, but it calmed back down and the guys decided to give it one more go. They went to Hideaways and surfed some waist high plus or so waves. Again, nobody out so they had that going for them. Good group of guys. Stoked they had such a good time.
