MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** G’day surfers, thanks for dropping by the baliwaves.com for your morning run down on surf and weather conditions around Bali, plus plus. Well yesterday I’d have to say there was a short lived improvement in wave height on the Outer Reefs of Tuban. For around 2 hours before the tide peaked there were some nice little 3 footers (head high) on all sections of the big 3. But when I’ve gone down for the 6.30am surf recon anticipating a trip down to Uluwatu I was disappointed to see that wave height today is back in the 1-2ft class between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The tide was still running down for a mediocre 1.1mtr Low set for 8.00am and then is going to run back up for a 1.9mtr High around 2.00pm. I don’t think there’s gunna be too much action happening anywhere today but for those that just have to surf everyday you would find some shoulder to head high waves, 2-3ft, down at Uluwatu. The wind was coming lightly outta the ENE @ 1-3knot and off-shore along Bali ’s West Coast and should keep increasing in strength through out the day. Weather wise we had some light cloud cover but will burn off and produce just another hot and sunny beach day for the holiday crew. I also better mention that there’s no need to worry about the small surf we’ve got at the moment because it won’t be long and it’ll be firing on the reef breaks again very soon. We do have a nice looking swell in transit to us that should start to show anytime in the next 36hrs. Also we had better thank the good surfers at the Kandui Surf Resort up in the Mentawai island chain of Sumatra for sending us some quality photos from their part of Indonesia . Hopefully they’ll be coming in with every report they send us ! Ok then crew have a good one and if your not already on your way over to Bali , you should be !
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Made’s sms surf report from lakey Peak this morning reads that wave height is still holding in the 1-3ft range out the front on the famous Lakey Peak . As per normal, surfing conditions were clean and glassy with no wind present. There were 12 surfers up for the early paddle on The Peak, no surfers riding The Pipe. There’s also been quite a few check outs with the total number of visiting surfers dropping back down to 65. What I’ll do for ya’s tomorrow is post the email address of the Aman Gati Hotel that’s situated right smack dab in front of Lakey Peak. Then that way anyone who wants to save some money and contact the hotel direct can do so.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 24th April ’07 ; Winds were pretty strong out of the north this morning. It looked a little bigger out at 4 Bobs, but no one seemed in a big hurry to jump in the boat. Most the people at the resort right now have been here before and everybody knows bigger waves are coming soon, so there was not a lot of frothing going on about getting in the water. About mid morning we mustered up enough motivations to go check out Nipusi. We could see there was some fun waves, but there were a few guys on it so we decided to give Bankvaults a try. It was another one of those days out there that was hard to find a shoulder, but it was nice to feel a little more power under us after surfing Nipusi and Burgerworld as much as we have been lately. It was a couple of feet overhead and conditions were perfect, but our “making the wave” success rate was pretty low, so after a while we went back to Nipusi. Our timing was right because the guys that were surfing there were getting tired and it wasn’t long before it was basically just our guys in the water. There were plenty of overhead waves with great conditions and we surfed until our arms just couldn’t take it anymore. I was actually glad to see other surfers start coming back out. It gave us a good excuse to go in and get some lunch. We were shocked to find out that we had actually been surfing for over 5 hours! Time flies when “you know what”! On the way back in, we saw a nice set at 4 Bobs come through. The winds had backed down and there shoulder high, glassy waves rolling through with no one on them. Nick couldn’t choose a meal over empty waves, so he jumped back in the water! He was joined by some of the other guests later and they all had fun, surfing until there was no light left to surf. Looking for a little smaller waves tomorrow.
