AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Hello to all you surfers calling by the baliwaves.com to see what’s really happening surf and weather wise here in Bali today. Well I couldn’t help myself, I’ve been hanging out for it in fact. To give ya’s a close up look at my favorite little wave just down the road from home. When I went down for my 6.30am surf recon of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban it was obvious that wave height had kicked up in size since yesterday. First up the wind was light on-shore outta the NW @ 1knot with wave height ranging between 3-6ft from Kuta Reef* to Airport Left . The tide was just about at the top of 1.7mtr High. So I went and had a cuppa and waited for the ESE Tradewind to commence blowing off-shore. I didn’t have to wait long either, as by 8.00am it was on track. Kuta Reef was breaking perfectly at 3-5ft and winding out for a good 100yrds+ for the 20 or so surfers in the know. Middle Reef was picking up some solid 4-6 footers but only peeling off for 60-70yrds before hitting the close out section. Further down the line at Airport Left there was a solid crowd of 30+ surfers catching the more tamer waves in the 2-4ft range. Right now at 3.00pm it’s still smoking out on the Reefs but I would have to say there are already signs of it dropping off a touch from the mornings size. The Low Tide is now in play and Middle Reef is at it’s best and still pushing double head high plus on the sets. Like I mentioned yesterday just about every reef break along Bali ’s surf riddled West Coast would have been producing perfection at some stage of the tide range today. I hope it was this good at your local today ? Well if not it’s never to late to grab a plane ticket and hop it on over to Bali , cause there’s still plenty more swell still in transit to Indonesia over the next couple of weeks.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbaw ; Made sent through his sms surf report from the also famous Lakey Peak and was happy to tell me that wave height had jumped up into the 5-6ft+ range out on The Peak for the crew of 20 surfers in the water. He also said there were 5 tube junkies pulling into some totally sick tubes across the channel at Lakey Pipe. He also mentioned that there was a fair bit of surfer traffic trekking down the beach towards Perriscope’s. They also had a few more new arrivals at Lakey’s yesterday pushing the total number of visiting surfers in the area to 80.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 25th April ’07 ; Surf was looking a little smaller this morning and the winds were blowing from the north at a pretty good clip. Looking at the surf forecast, it looked like a good day to rest up. But our guys couldn’t hold back and went searching for surf about mid-morning. Nipusi had some surf, but there were a few boats there so the boys pushed on. Next stop, Burgerworld. Waves there were a couple of feet overhead and they got a break from the wind for a bit while they were there, so they ended up having some fun. The north winds picked up again in the early afternoon and blew the rest of the day. Everybody was content to wait for our next swell which should start filling in tomorrow and looking best on Friday.
