**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Hi crew, well I just thought I’d bring ya’s upta date on what,s gone down today. Like the morning report says it was cranking through the early am. But when I went back down for another look around 3.00pm wave height had actually dropped back into the 1-3ft range between Kuta Reef and Airports . The wind was blowing outta the ESE and off-shore at around 12knot. So it was the early birds who got the best of the swell. If I can carry my camera gear I’ll try and get out and shoot ya’s fresh photos through the weekend.
**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Goog morning folks and welcome back to your baliwaves daily surf and weather info website. Well the way my back is feeling today is really depressing after just getting back from doing the surf recon of the Outer Reefs to find 3-5 footers smoking through between Kuta Reef and Airports . Right now at 9.30am the tide is still running in for a moderate High and the wind is coming outta the ENE @ 2-4knot and off-shore from Legian to Uluwatu along Bali’s West Coast . Kuta Reef was peeling perfectly for a good 100yrds at 2-4ft and there were some lucky buggers out there having a ball. Middle Reef was picking up some solid 5 footers, getting up to that double head high range on the set waves. But I didn’t see anyone out there catching any waves while I was looking. Airport Left had 2-3ft+ waves breaking across into the channel and there looked to be already around 20 surfers in the line-up. I’d have to imagine Airport Right on the Jimburan Bay side of the airport runway would be producing some perfectection in the 2-3ft+ range as well. Further down to the Southern “Bukit” end of Bali you’d be able to find waves breaking at Balangan, Bingin woulda had mechanical little waves barreling off while the tide was lower through the early am. An of course there’d have to be plenty of waves happening down at Uluwatu on the Main Peak and Temple sections in the 4-6 foot class. Now do you understand about my case of depression… Now to top it all off, weather wise outside there’s nothing but clear blue sky and where gunna be in for hot down on the beach, heading for around 30-32 degree’s Celcius. Ok and if anyone is wondering what the dollar exchange rate is doing at the moment you’ll find that 1 Aussie dollar will get you 7,350. Rupiah and 1 American dollar gets you 9,050 Rupiah. That’s me for now I’ve got an appointment with a back cracker. Listen crew I still need a bit of a hand, I only ask when I need to and right now I need your help. I know ya’s all like the video clips I’ve been loading up on baliwaves.com. Well the old Sony has just about packed it in and I now have a once in a lifetime offer to score a Cannon XL2 Video Camera from a professional friend. I’m exactly AU$800.00 short of the mark and have got until Saturday to find it or someone else is on stand by to buy it. Now this camera is around 7 grand to buy new and will get us much closer to the action making the video clips so much better in quality, for your pleasure. So please folks if you can spare a few bucks for the baliwaves cause please, thanks crew. Drop me a line and I’ll tell you how to get it to us. I’ve already gotta a give a BIG THANKS to Andrew Sargeant, John P. M., Michael Owen, Bob Hall, Mark valeria, Bryan Ryder and Daniel Trainer for already helping baliwaves.com. The needed funds has now dropped to AU$320.00 !!!
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Made sms’d through that wave height has also started to increase over at Lakey’s and at 7.00am there 2-4 footers peeling left and right on “The Peak” for the 10 surfers in the water. There wasn’t anyone out on Lakey Pipe as the tide wasn’t quite high enough at the time. Made also reckoned that Periscope’s will be breaking as the tide creeps in. No new arrivals over at Lakey’s yesterday and no one checked out so there’s still an even 50 international surfers visiting the area.
Kandui / Mentawai islands 5th April ’07 ; 5 guests left last night and they were replaced with 6 more arriving first thing this morning. The first boat left this morning with our old guests while our new guests settled in. The first stop was Hideaways . The swell had picked up a little overnight out of the southwest and there was some head high plus sets with good conditions. Winds were out of the east at about 10+ . The second boat left a little later and we showed up at Hideaways also. We could see there were good waves, but there was another boat on it besides our guys and we could see another one coming, so we decided to look for something else. We went E-Bay . At first it didn’t look like much, but conditions were good with nobody out.and we had seen the waves at Hideaways so we just paddled out, half at E-Bay and half at Pitstop . Good call! Waves started coming in at about heat high at E-Bay and a little smaller at Pitstop . After a couple or hours or so of having the place to ourselves, our other boat showed up. (The tide was getting low at Hideaways .) We were ready for something else so we let them have it and refueled with some snacks and drinks then made the short trip over to Beng Beng to take a look at the waves there. We were pretty stoked to see nobody out and some slightly overhead surf coming in. We surfed until just about everyone was exhausted, not wanting to leave good surf with nobody out. But our stomachs were on empty and we were ready for some rest. In the afternoon some of the guys went out at 4 Bobs where it was glassy and shoulder high and nobody out. I talked 3 guys into going to Hideaways to catch the incoming higher tide. We were stoked to see nobody out as well and super good conditions. The waves were a little bigger than in the morning a little more powerful. I lost count of how many tubes Sam had. He got one that he said was the best tube he had had in a long, long time. I’m always stoked when I hear that kind of thing, which is pretty often around here! Hoping the swell will stay at least the same size for the morning boat.
Kandui / Mentawai islands 4th April ’07 ; Sorry for the absence! So much work going on over here lately and I just gotoverwhelmed. We haven’t had any epic surf these last few days, but it has been fun. Burgerworld has been a regular stop and 4 Bobs has been consistently giving us waves. Today was pretty much more of the same. There was an east wind blowing around 10 mph this morning and the swell didn’t look like too much to get excited about, maybe chest high sets at 4 Bobs . After breakfast we headed to Beng Beng , hoping we could get a little swell in there knowing it would be clean with the east winds. But not much was making it in there so we went to Burgerworld . The winds were not the best for it either, but there was still some fun, overhead waves. Later that morning, we had 6 new guests arrive. After they settled in they grabbed a boat and went to Nipusi . The wind was not the best for that spot either, but it was good enough for the first surf of their trip. Waves were overhead and nobody was around. In the afternoon, everybody that wanted to surf were content to surf 4 Bob . The rest conserved their energy, hoping for bigger surf to fill in tomorrow.
