AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Hello crew and thanks for tuning into the baliwaves.com for more surf and weather info straight outta the wave riddled friendly little holiday island of Bali. Well today we have the Full Moon rising and we’ve got a new swell hitting the reefs. I went down for a surf check of Tuban’s Outer Reefs at 9.00am and wave height was just starting to increase into the 3-5ft range again. The tide was still on the rise heading for a 2.3mtr High around 10.00am’ish and the wind blowing off-shore outta the ESE-SE @ 5-8knot . This swell seems to have a touch more South in it as Kuta Reef was only breaking in the 2-4ft (shoulder to head high plus). While Middle Reef and Airport Left were breaking much more consistently in the 3-5ft class. There was already something like 25-30 surfers in the water on KR and it was peeling off nicely for a good 100yrds . Middle’s only had around a dozen surfers but the in coming tide wasn’t helping it too much. Down on Airport Left it looked like half the Japanese contingency visiting Bali were out there. But it looked to be the best outta the big three to me. Kyle sms’d me from down at Uluwatu and reckoned wave height was a solid looking 5-7ft+ when the bomb sets rolled through on the Main Peak . He didn’t indulge me too much more info cause I could imaging he’d a been in a big hurry to get out there. As the tide runs back out this afternoon I’m sure locations like Bingin and Impossible’s will be cranking for the crew staying in that area. Weather wise here in Tuban there is the odd big chunk of white cloud floating around but basically it’s just hot and sunny. Me I’ve thrown off shooting for today and am gunna just go surfing instead, I hope ya’s don’t mind. But I’ll be back again tomorrow with more surf talk for ya’s so stay tuned to the No.1 Bali surf and weather website on the net .
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Made’s first sms came through to my phone at 7.00am and said that wave height had increased slightly on yesterday, now breaking in the 3-4ft range out the front on Lakey Peak . About 3 hours later he sent me another one saying he’d just finished surfing and that wave height was in the serious 5-7ft range. There were 18 other surfers in the water with him on Lakey Peak and another 10 riders across the channel at Lakey Pipe. And with the tide on the rise (at the time) there was plenty of takers heading for Periscopes.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 29th April ’07; We were looking at slightly stormy weather this morning and north winds at about 10-15 mph. We were thinking Bankvaults right away, after the nice session the guys had yesterday, so I and those that I could motivate at that early hour took off to see what was up. When we got there, things were looking pretty good.Conditions were alright with the north-northwest winds that were blowing and it was only a little smaller than yesterday. There were a few guys on it, but they were not getting very many waves. You had to pick them out there, which is usually the case at Bankvaults, but you could definitely get a good one. Our second boat arrived a couple of hours after us. A couple of our crew went to Nipusi and the rest joined us at Bankvaults. By that time the wind had died down and the crowd had dwindled down to only a couple of other guys besides us. I saw a lot of barrels in a short period of time. Jevon and Drew were getting shacked just about every wave. A few guys ended up paddling out and the wind started blowing a little again, so that was enough to send us back for some lunch. We had a storm blow through in the afternoon. Strong winds out of the northeast at 25 mph or so. We were content to hang out and wait for tomorrow. Expecting bigger surf then…
