MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Hey good morning surfers and welcome back to Bali ’s No.1 daily surf and weather information website. Well, with nearly 100,000. surfers tuning in every month we must be doing something right. Ok like I mentioned a few days back the Indian Ocean is starting to deliver some more solid waves around Bali . I went down for the 6.30am surf check of the Outer Reefs of Tuban and wave height was ranging between 3-5ft , or head to double head high between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . There was no wind present so surfing conditions were clean and glassy. The tide was running up for a solid 2.6mtr High happening between 10.00-11.00am so the waves will improve even more around midday through till mid afternoon. I also think that wave height will continue to increase in size through out the day. Kuta Reef at the time already had a few dawn patrollers catching some slightly fat looking head to head high plus waves. Middle Reef didn’t have any surfers out there but wave height was starting to pulse through up to double head high. Anyway Middle Reef is better suited to the lower end of the tide scale. Airport Left was breaking in the head to head high plus range and was starting to fill up with a mainly Japanese contingency. My money would be on Airport Right this morning as she don’t mind a bit of water over her reef. And with the hardly existent wind this morning would be peeling off some perfect right handers. With the big tide coming on you could count out Balangan, Bingin, Impossible’s and Padang Padang . But Uluwatu’s Main Peak and Temple sections would be producing some solid waves for the more experienced surfer. I had my fill of waves up at Medewi yesterday so the plan will be to wait for the high tide to pass and then sit in the channel at Kuta Reef (around 80yrds away from the action) and shoot some stills with 600mm and 13.7 mega pix SLR. Weather wise today we had plenty of high thin cloud covering us but now at 9.00am it’s starting to burn off and we’ll be in for just another hot and sunny day for everyone to get out and enjoy. That’s Bali all over, the perfect destination for a surfing holiday. Ok so if ya wanna see some more action from the famous Kuta Reef here in Tuban tune in again late this afternoon and I’ll give ya a look. And don’t forget when ya day is done and ya wanna kick back for a few cold one’s make sure ya call into the “The Dewi Sri” live seafood restaurant here in Jalan Kartika Plaza, Tuban (the seafood at Jimburan Bay is not even in the picture). Anyway the boss Mr Nyoman Korna wants all you lot to know that between the hours of 3pm till 7pm, 7 days a week for the next month, he’s going to be offering ya’s ICY COLD BEER at way below Happy Hour prices. A large Bintang Beer will cost Rp12,000 (AU$1.70) and a small bottle of Bintang goes for just Rp7,000 (AU$0.90). So if you’ve got a thirst for ICE COLD BEER make sure ya drop by and say G’Day to Nyoman and his friendly staff at the “Dewi Sri”
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Dewa Made has sms’d through his report from the ever popular surfing location of Lakey Peak and says that wave height is still down in the shoulder to head high range this morning. Surfing conditions were clean and smooth with no wind over there either. Lakey Peak itself had 20 surfers sharing the perfect left and rights, while across the channel at Lakey Pipe there were another 8 surfers. Plus there was a lot of surfer traffic taking on the long walk down to Periscopes at first light. The total number of visiting surfers in the Lakey area has dropped back down to the mid 60’s. I’d say the crew over there should start to see some improvement in wave size by later this afternoon. Just a reminder for anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s.
