MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy folks and welcome back to the baliwaves.com daily surf and weather report for your favorite surfing location, namely Bali . Yesterday as ya’s can see in these latest photos on site, that I did make it back out to Kuta Reef , all be it a touch too late. Too late because the tide was pouring out through the afternoon making surfing conditions very testy indeed. Kuta Reef tends to “double suck” on the take off section and then go dry towards the end of the wave. This morning I went to check out surfing conditions at 6.45am , and no doubt about it, the swell has arrived. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airports was ranging between double to triple head high plus ! The wind was coming outta the ESE @ 3-6knot and off-shore along Bali ’s South Western coastline . The tide was running up for a very solid 2.6mtr high set for around 11.00am. Speaking of, there’s gunna be a lot of damage done along the shore line, with the combo of huge waves and big tide. Even yesterday the waves were crashing into all the beach front restaurants, and today is gunna be worse. Kuta Reef had a handful of surfers out there and wave height was pushing well over double head high when the sets came through. No one was surfing out on Middle Reef , with wave height triple head high plus. Likewise there was no body surfing down at Airport Left also in the double head high range. Even down at Uluwatu this morning I reckon the boys would be having a hard time trying to get out through “the cave” but when the tide runs out later this afternoon we should have some spectacular waves breaking on the “Outside Corner” at Uluwatu, maybe in the 8-10ft+ class. I’m gunna be waiting till around 2.00-3.00pm and then make a run down to Padang Padang with the Video equipment . The Low tide is gunna be a dry, reef exposing 0.1mtr happening around sun set time. So we should have some good stuff to show ya’s later tonight. Weather wise today we’ve still got some of that pesky high cloud cover but there’s also a fair bit of blue sky up there with it. So yes it’s just another hot and sunny blah blah blah day coming on for the happy holiday crew over here in Bali . Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Tuban; — 1AU$=Rp7,335. – 1US$=Rp8,350 . The actual exchange rates vary from vendor to vendor, you also should be very wary of anyone offering unusually high exchange rates ! Ok guys and girls hook in and get some work done, and wait till I get back from Padang Padang with the video footage. Thanks for dropping in.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa; Our Balinese surfer on the scene at Lakey Peak, Dewa Made sent through his 7.00am sms surf report and says that wave height has jumped iup into the 6-8ft+ range, at the time. It will get bigger throughout the day as the swell takes that little bit longer to get in there. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy but still a bit uneven. There were no surfers out the front on Lakey Peak or over on Lakey Pipe. But he did mention that there were a lot of surfers heading down the beach towards Periscopes. There were more “check outs” from Lakey’s yesterday bringing the total number of visiting surfers in the area down to 60. So don’t worry about the need to have advanced bookings at this stage because really that’s not a lot of guests when ya know there are at least 6-8 hotels to choose from. Also just another reminder for anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s.
