MIDDAY SURF UP-DATE **** Hello friends of Bali and thanks for dropping in for the baliwaves.com Sunday Session . I woulda typed this up earlier but I was loading up 5 NEW VIDEO CLIPS of PADANG PADANG in all it’s glory onto baliwaves. And then I thought “what the $%&#” Kuta Reef was still cranking out waves upta double head high plus so I had to take my 6’2” DIVERSE out for a run. There were beautiful waves coming through, absolutely perfect, and peeling off for a good 100yrds. But, there were quite a few other surfers with the same idea, around 35-40. Middle Reef still had the odd 6 footer breaking. While further down the reef at Airport Lefts there were another 20-30 surfers catching waves in the head to head high plus range. Right now at 1.15pm the tide has just passed through the top of a 2.6mtr High and is starting to run back out for 0.2mtr Low taking place around sun set time. Weather wise the wind was blowing lightly outta the South at 1-3knot from sun up until the ESE Tradewind kicked in around 10.45am and tidied things up. Nothing but blue sky and sun shine outside and the temperature would have to be around 30 degree’s Celsius outta the shade. The water temperature was real nice for board shorts, somewhere between 23-25 degree’s Celsius. Here’s some funny news; Our two American guests who just arrived a couple of days couldn’t believe how good it is here in Bali . Especially after all the hyped up “don’t go to Bali propaganda” they were hearing back in the States. If your coming here for a pure surfing holiday all you gotta worry about is that there’s enough water covering the reef when ya go surfing. Feel free to drop us an email if you’ve got any questions about surfing in or around Bali . We hope you make it over here in 2007 for some perfect waves ‘n weather. Don’t forget to scroll through the VIDEO SECTION on baliwaves.com for the new Padang Padang footage, I’ve still got another 5 of em to load up yet !!!
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa; Our surfer on the scene at Lakey Peak, Dewa Made sms’d through that the surf was cranking in the 4-5ft range this morning. Surfing conditions were ultra clean and glassy for the 15 surfers that were in the water at 7.00am. No one was riding at Lakey Pipe but I’m sure as the tide pushed in through mid morning there woulda been a few takers. Likewise for Periscopes and Nunga’s. The total number of visiting surfers in the Lakey area has fallen back down in to 50, so there’d be plenty of waves to go round. Also just another reminder for anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s.
If you want to hear about some other locations around Bali then check out the READERS REPORT PAGE as Pierre is always filing his news on where he’s been surfing, and he gets around I tell ya’s.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands; Still no news from the guys up at Kandui in the Mentawai island chain. I hope everything is ok up there cause I saw on the TV that Sumatra got hit pretty hard by the giant swell and New Moon tide. Whole villages were getting washed into the sea…. But I did receive an email from the FAMOUS “ INDIES TRADER” surf charter boat along with some hot photos from their last trip out. Perfect waves with the caption “Is it too late to say, wish you were here” Thanks Bro…. I’ll try and get those photos along with some photos I shot of the beach devastation into the KUTA CAM GALLERY for ya’s real soon.
