MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning groovers and welcome back to the baliwaves.com daily surf and weather report . And it just doesn’t let up, at 6.30am when I was down sussing out the waves on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban they were coming through relentlessly. Wave height has boosted again and showing in the 3-6ft range (head to almost triple head high) between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . The tide was running out for a meager 0.9mtr Low set for around 8.30am that won’t really interfere with surfing. Then it’s gunna be running back up for a 2.1mtr High through the early part of the afternoon. Wind direction at the time was coming outta the North @ 1-2knot but will swing to the ESE and off-shore as soon as the Tradewind kicks in anytime from now on. Kuta Reef was shaping up nicely with a consistent 3-4ft of swell wrapping down the reef and there were already half a dozen surfers in the water. Ya can count on Kuta Reef being crowded today, that’s always the scenario when the swell gets bigger and the crew can’t handle the bigger size down on the bukit. They run for KR. Middle Reef was smoking through waves in the 4-5ft+ range but I didn’t see any volunteers out there at the time. Even Airport Left had good looking waves breaking in the solid 4ft class and I’m sure there’ll be plenty of surfers on it as the tide starts to run back in. Airport Right , if the wind stays light as the tide runs in should be a good option for any of the natural footers. Weather wise it’s same as it always is at this time of the year, just perfect. We’ll be heading for a max temperature of around 32 degree’s Celsius while the water temp is sitting pretty on 23-24 degree’s Celsius. Ok I’ve just mentioned 4 of the perfect wave locations in this area alone. But there’s so many more to choose from it aint funny. Me, I’m planning on being just another selfish surfer in the line-up today so if your looking for Slim he’ll be out at Kuta Reef with the team from Home Base . Have a good one, even if your not here on the wave riddled island of Bali .

Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa; Our man on location over at lakey’s, Dewa Made has sms’d through that wave height on lakey Peak is still holding in the head to head high plus range this morning. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy for the 15 surfers in the water on “The Peak”. While across the channel on Lakey Pipe there were another 4 riders. I’d expect the crew at Lakey’s can expect this new swell to start showing over there later this afternoon. The total number of visiting surfers in the area is still down in the low 50’s. for anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands; Ok everything’s ok over at the Kandui surf resort up in the Mentawai island chain of Sumatra . The owner has let me know they handled the big sell and tides unscathed, but then a freak electrical storm took out there wireless internet transmitter and at the very moment are working on restoring it. So we’ll be back to normal surf reports from the Kandui very soon.
