MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Hi crew, and it’s another good looking day shaping up here in Bali !. This morning’s 6.30am surf recon of the Outer Reefs was still showing some waves breaking at Kuta Reef and all the way down to Airport Left . Nothing spectacular, but there was still the odd head high wave for anyone interested. The wind was coming lightly outta the ENE @ 1-2knot for starters and will turn more ESE around mid morning. The tide was running down for a 1.1mtr Low set for 10.00am, then filling back in for 1.7mtr High around 4.00pm this afternoon. Kuta Reef had a few takers out there for the early session and there were a few waist to shoulder high waves peeling off. Middle Reef was pushing the shoulder to head high range and there also 2-3 surfers in the water. Aiport Left was a little more consistent at shoulder to head high and looking the best out of the big 3 on the Outers. We had some solid cloud moving over early this morning and in my mind indicates the new swell is getting very close. Also the fact that Airport Left was more consistent than Middle Reef confirmed the more Southerly swell direction we are expecting. Uluwatu would once again be the best place for solid waves and you’d probably be looking at waves in the head to a few feet over head range down on the Main Peak and Temple ’s sections. Over on the East Coast of Bali I’ve also heard there’s been some nice waves happening up at Keramas, *before the Tradewind kicks in and blows out the whole East side of the island. And that can happen anytime between 8.00-10.00am. Weather wise the cloud has already passed over our little island but still showing down south out in the Indian Ocean . We’ll be dealing with more hot and sunny beach conditions with the temperature heading for a top of 33 degree’s Celsius outta the shade. The water temp is a touch cooler at 22-23 degree’s Celsius. Over on the island of Nusa Lembongan ; Our team over there has sms’d through that wave height was in the head high range at “Shipwreck’s” and that there was a solid crowd of 35 surfers in the water at 7.00am. Money saver tip #752 : Anyone wanting to get out on a 3 island 7 day boat charter to Lembongan, Lombok and Sumbawa drop me a line cause I was talking to an operator last night and he’s offering the all inclusive trips for just AU$650.00 !!! Hey and don’t forget when ya day is done and ya wanna kick back for a few cold one’s make sure ya call into the “The Dewi Sri” live seafood restaurant here in Jalan Kartika Plaza, Tuban (the seafood at Jimburan Bay is not even in the picture). Anyway the boss Mr Nyoman Korna wants all you lot to know that between the hours of 3pm till 7pm, 7 days a week for the next month, he’s going to be offering ya’s ICY COLD BEER at way below Happy Hour prices. A large Bintang Beer will cost Rp12,000 (AU$1.70) and a small bottle of Bintang goes for just Rp7,000 (AU$0.90). We’re not trying to flog ya’s surf trips or sell ya’s anything for that matter, we’re just trying to show ya’s how good it is here in Bali / Indonesia for a surfing holiday. We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is .
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa; Dewa Made sms’d through his observations of surfing conditions at 7.00am and says that wave height has dropped off a touch more overnight and is now down in the shoulder high range on Lakey Peak. Surfing conditions were perfectly clean and glassy for the 15 surfers up for the dawn patrol on “The Peak” and the 2 lone rangers sitting across the channel on Lakey Pipe. No new arrivals in the area so the total number of visiting surfers in the area remains at 50.
For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands; Ok everything’s ok over at the Kandui surf resort up in the Mentawai island chain of Sumatra . The owner has let me know they handled the big swell and tides unscathed, but then a freak electrical storm took out there wireless internet transmitter and at the very moment are working on restoring it. So we’ll be back to normal surf reports from the Kandui very soon.
