MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning surfers, thanks for stoppin in for the baliwaves.com daily run down on surf ‘n weather conditions around Bali and surrounding islands . Ok like I mentioned the other day about having a new swell in transit to us, it’s already starting to show. I went down for the surf recon of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban at 7.00am , wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left was looking more respectable in the 2-4ft range. Wind direction was coming outta the ENE @ 1-3knot and basically off-shore right along Bali’s West Coast from Medewi to Uluwatu . Kuta Reef already had a few surfers in the water at the time and there were some head high waves peeling off. Middle Reef was looking a bit too uneven, breaking in the shoulder to slightly over head class but with no one out there. Airport Left was breaking nicely in the head to head high plus range and there were already a couple of “reef taxi’s” parked over in the channel. The tide was still running out for a 1.0mtr Low happening around 11.30am but that shouldn’t really affect surfing conditions that much and we’ll be able to surf the Outer Reefs all the way through it. I’m also thinking that wave height should be increasing a bit more throughout the day, so you could virtually take your pick of any of the perfect wave set ups around Bali . Weather wise it’s just another hot ‘n sunny day coming on so there ain’t gunna be no complaints from the beach lovers here on vacation. Me, unfortunately (for you guys) I’m gunna be goofing off out at Kuta Reef shortly, but don’t sweat cause tomorrow I’ll be out in the field with the camera equipment for the baliwaves.com SUNDAY SESSION . So have a good one what ever you’ve got planed and if you ain’t got nothing to do get down to your local Travel Agent and get those tickets to the real Surfers Paradise (Bali) locked in. Catch ya’s tomorra.
Pierre’s Readers Report; Don’t forget to check the Readers Report Page crew because our roving reporter “Pierre” has been out and about surfing around Bali and I think he’s even loaded some new photos from his travels.
Nusa Lembongan : Plenty of waves over on the little island of Nusa Lembongan this morning according to the sms surf report I received at 7.15am. Wave height out on “Shipwrecks” was ranging between head to almost double head high on the set waves and no shortage of surfers chasing them. “Playgrounds” and “Lacerations” were also producing waves but only in the shoulder high class. But that’ll help to spread out the crowds that are pretty common over there these days. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy with bugger all wind present.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Our man Dewa Made has done sent in his sms surf report from the ever famous surfing location of Lakey Peak and he sounded pretty happy that wave height has boosted into the head to head high plus range this morning. Surfing conditions were also clean and glassy for the 10 surfers that were settling for the perfect left and rights on Lakey Peak . There were no surfers riding the tubes of Lakey Pipe. Quite a few surfers were making the trek down to Periscopes to get the most of the tide. He also tells us that there was a big surfing exodus to across the other side of the bay to surf the little know wave called Macci Point. The total number of visiting surfers in the Lakey Peak region remains at 55.
For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands; Ok everything’s ok over at the Kandui surf resort up in the Mentawai island chain of Sumatra . The owner has let me know they handled the big swell and tides unscathed, but then a freak electrical storm took out there wireless internet transmitter and at the very moment are working on restoring it. So we’ll be back to normal surf reports from the Kandui very soon.
