MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Hey crew welcome aboard the baliwaves.com surf and weather info H.Q. I went down and actually looked at surfing conditions at 6.00am this morning hoping there’d still be enough swell around to warrant a trip down to Uluwatu with the camera gear. But, not to be today. Wave height on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was lucky to be breaking at half to one foot between Kuta Reef and Airport Left , not even Middle Reef was surfable. The tide was just at the bottom of a 0.5mtr Low @ 6.00am. And when it makes it’s way back in for a 2.6mtr High at midday I don’t really think anywhere’s gunna be worth the effort, unless you’ve just arrived here of course. I’d say Uluwatu would be lucky to be in the waist to shoulder high class, with the odd freak set at head high. The best bet for a paddle would be to go hunting along the Kuta / Legian stretch of beach breaks around mid morning. The wind was already coming lightly out of the ESE @ 1-3knot and off-shore from Legian to Uluwatu. It will increase in strength as the Tradewind kicks in anytime now. Weather wise outside the rain has just stopped (8.15am) and the cloud starting to disperse for more hot and sunny beach holiday type weather on the island of Bali . Ok team there’s not a lot else to rave on about today, not much surf but we’ve still got a top day coming on and there’s always a million different things to do and see around Bali. Have a good one and if there’s any change in surfing conditions I’ll keep ya’s posted. See ya’s over here in 2007 if want to make the most of your holiday.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Made sms’d through his observations on surfing conditions at Lakey Peak and says @ 7.00am wave height was down in the 1-2ft range on the famous Lakey Peak . There were 12 surfers in the water on the Peak and surfing conditions were clean and glassy, not much breaking on any of the other locations. So there is a total of 75 frustrated visiting surfers staying in the area.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 3rd May ’07 ; Yikes! Waves were looking a little smaller this morning. Winds were blowing out of the south at just a few mph. It was hard to get too excited looking at 4 Bobs, but with a few cups of coffee down our new group got pretty amped to go so they took off hoping for some leftover swell. By the time they reached Nipusi the winds had switched to west at a fair clip so they decided to check out Burgerworld while hoping it was small enough to not be burgering. There was a few good waves to be found out there, but it was a little big for that spot today. So when the winds turned and came from the east (talk about some wind switches lately!), they headed back. Our second boat caught up with them as they passed Nipusi. Conditions had cleaned up a bit so one boat stayed with those that wanted to surf, and one boat took off for home with those that were thinking lunch. In the afternoon, some of the guys took advantage of the empty lineup at 4 Bobs and got some fun, shoulder high waves. Some of the guys were feeling lucky and decided to go to Nipusi again, and sure enough the winds switched again, but this time north so conditions got good over there and our boys were scoring overhead Nipusi and Bankvaults, clean and with no one around. Good way to end the day. Looking for decreasing swell tomorrow.
