MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning folks and thanks for dropping in for the baliwaves.com Sunday Session . Well I was thinking that our new swell system would start to show later this afternoon, I was wrong. I’ve just got back from doing the 7.00am surf check of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban and there are some nice little waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . Well compared to yesterday anyway. The tide was just on the bottom of a 0.6mtr Low and is currently on the run in for a 2.6mtr High scheduled in for 12.30pm. Kuta Reef was peeling off waves in the waist to shoulder high range with a still empty line-up while I was on the scene. Middle Reef had 2 or 3 surfers already in the water and wave height was breaking at shoulder to head high plus. Airport Left was missing out and only breaking at 1-2ft but she should improve with a bit more water over the reef around mid morning. The wind was pretty well dead calm first up but around 7.30am the ESE Tradewind kicked in and went straight into top gear @ 5-10knot. There’s also quite a bit of solid cloud moving over and probably associated with the approaching system. Even so we should still end up with more hot and sunny beach conditions by lunch time. If I get the chance I’m gunna try and get down to Uluwatu to shoot ya’s some photos with the 600mm and 14 mega SLR. There’d have to be some nice waves breaking on the Main Peak in the 3-4ft+ class. I also had a sms surf report sent to me from Jeff Ryan who is currently enjoying himself over at G-Land / East Java . He reckons it’s been cranking over there the last 3 days and is looking even better this morning, pushing 5ft, maybe next year hey Timmy. Ok then let me see what I can come up with today and if your interested in seeing some of the action from down at Uluwatu today make sure ya check in again later this evening. By the way I’d also like to thank the 8 surfers who helped me secure the deposit on our new Cannon XL2 video camera, big effort crew, coming up with exactly 800 dollars. By for now.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Made has sms’d through this morning at 7.00am and says that wave height on Lakey Peak is still only breaking in the waist to shoulder high range but coming through much more consistently for the 22 surfers that were in the water at the time. Surfing conditions were super clean and glassy with no wind at all. I’d also imaging that the crew at Lakey’s should start to see some improvement in wave height by later this afternoon or for first thing in the morning. Made said there were quite a few new arrivals yesterday pushing the total number of visiting surfers in the area up to 75.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 4th May ’07 ; Winds were out of the north this morning, and actually stayed that way the whole day for once, except for an hour of so in the mid morning when we had a light south. The waves were a little smaller today, but not by much. There were still some overhead sets. Our first and second boats went to Nipusi where conditions were good. Amen went to the beach and took photos for 5 hours! Our guys had the place to themselves for all but a little bit of that time when 4 guys off of a boat were out, and crew Kandui took full advantage of the situation. Amen said he took around 2,500 pics! Quite the slide show tonight I’m sure. We could have went back in the afternoon for another session, but everyone was content to hang out and talk story in the restaurant. Hoping the surf will hang in there and not drop much overnight.
