AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Hello surfers and thanks for hanging around for the baliwaves.com Bali surf and weather report . First up I made a mistake with the date on these new photos I loaded up from Uluwatu yesterday afternoon, as you already know. Well I’ve been out checking every reef break from here at Kuta Reef right around to the South Eastern end of the island at Nyang Nyang’s . I’ve been out for a very relaxing day trolling lures and throwing spinners, in other words chasing surface feeding fish. We motored out past Kuta Reef at 7.00am and there were a few ok 2-2ft plus waves peeling along the edge of the reef but no one in the water surfing them . Middle Reef was looking the best of the Outer Reefs and wave height was easily over head in the 4ft range, no one out. Airport Left was the tamest looking of the big 3 and more like waist to shoulder high at best, no one out. Going past Balangan and there were 4 surfers in the line-up off the point and there were some good looking shoulder to head high waves breaking. Bingin also had a 6-8 surfers already in the water but she only looked to be picking up waist to shoulder high set waves. Bugger all happening at Impossible’s or at Padang Padang , but a bit further down the coastline at Uluwatu wave height was still pushing the tempo at 3-4ft+ and there were at least 30 surfers in the water getting some solid action in. Around on the Eastern side at Nyang Nyang’s there was one lone surfer out and he was scoring some solid looking 3-4 foot right handers. A couple of Tuna and GT later the off-shore ESE Tradewind kicked in and went straight into top gear at 5-10knot. I’d also have to say that wave height has increased since this morning, as we were coming home back through the Outer Reefs it looked like Middle Reef was pouring through waves in the 3-4ft+ range. Weather wise it’s been fantastic with mainly blue sky and warm to hot beach temperature, except for the half an hours worth of torrential rain that pelted us in our open outrigger boat out the front of Balangan around lunchtime. Right now it’s just gone 5.00pm and I don’t reckon you coulda eaten fish any fresher than what me and my mate Made Sena just have. Unless of course your planning on visiting Bali ’s best LIVE SEAFOOD restaurant the DEWI SRI right here in Tuban. Forget all about Jimburan Bay for a feed, unless ya like your seafood on ice for a few days beforehand. Ok crew take it easy out there, and hurry up and get your yourselves over to Bali for season 2007. I’ll be back in the morning with more news on Bali ’s surf and weather, infact I might even go shoot ya’s some fresh VIDEO CLIPS in the bargain as well !!!
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Made sms’d through that wave height was still only in the 2-3ft range over on Lakey Peak this morning for the 20 surfers in the line-up. Surfing conditions were clean and smooth with no wind for the morning session. The total number of visiting surfers in the area stands at 70.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 5th May ’07 ; Looked like groundhog day this morning. Swell looked about the same size and the winds were light out of the north. There was no urgency for an early boat. Everyone was content to get a nice breakfast and hang out a while before we took off. Our first boat rolled up to Nipusi around 8am. We could see that the wind had picked up a little and there was a little east in it now, and Nupusi had really good conditions being sheltered from the east component in the wind. There was one boat on it, but the waves were overhead on occasion and everyone had fun. I went out to Bankvaults for a little solo session in the head high plus waves. Bankvaults is not so sheltered from that east vector that was in the wind so it was a little chattery on the face. But no one was out, so I had that going for me. Our second boat arrived and joined the party, and by that time some of the charter boat crew were ready for a break so the number in the water stayed about the same. We all packed it in by about 1 and headed back for lunch. We almost went back to Nipusi in the afternoon as the winds pretty much stayed the same all day, but we ended up getting lazy and just surfed 4 Bobs. Amen discovered a new angle for getting photos at 4 Bobs so maybe he can get some really good shots the next time it is good out there. (Pretty small today.) We are hoping for a little pop in the surf late tomorrow. Long range charts are looking pretty epic!
