MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy surfers and thanks for dropping into Bali ’s most highly viewed daily surf and weather report. We don’t try to sell you anything, no, we’re just trying to show you how good it is here on the holiday island of Bali . Anyway when I went down for the 6.00am surf recon of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban , things were definitely looking up for the surfer. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport left has grown over night and now showing @ 3-5ft. The tide was all but on the bottom of a mid range Low and no wind present at the time. But now at 9.30am the Tradewind has started to kick in blowing off-shore (Legian to Uluwatu) outta the ESE . Kuta Reef was still a touch shallow but is gunna be cranking in the 4ft range around mid morning (now !!). Middle Reef was pouring through wave after wave and getting into the double over head class (5ft on the old school surfer scale). Airport Left will also be improving as the tide starts to push back in, also in the 2-4ft range. You’d be able to take your pick of locations along Bali ’s South West coastline today. I’m sure Uluwatu would be doing some 6 footers down on the Main Peak and Temple sections and that would be for the more experienced surfers. Weather wise this morning we had some heavy rain fall between the hours of 8.00-9.00am but now the Tradey has kicked in the sky is clearing up and we’re in for more hot and sunny beach conditions. The temperature should bust into the low 30’s on the Celsius scale while the water temperature is perfect at 24 degree’s Celsius. I’ve got some catch up stuff to do this morning after spending a hassle free day of fishing yesterday. But I’ll try and get ya’s some more quality images with detail, up on baliwaves.com at some stage. Have a good one what ever ya got on today and don’t forget ya can drop me an email anytime for any information that might help your time in Bali run a little more efficiently.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Made sms’d through his observations of surfing conditions on Lakey Peak at 7.00am and says; wave height has boosted in to the 4-5ft+ range, with a period of 16 seconds. “The Peak” and was breaking perfectly left and right for the 22 surfers in the water at the time. Surfing conditions were ultra clean and glassy with no wind present. He also said that on average the ESE Tradewind has been kicking in from around 11.00am each morning and blowing hard cross/on-shore till sun set. So remember crew if your interested in surfing at Lakey Peak you only got the morning session to clock up your wave count. The total number of visiting surfers at Lakey’s has jumped to 75.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 6th May ’07; Didn’t need an alarm clock this morning. The clap of thunder at 5 :30am woke everyone up! I actually was woken up just by the flash through my eyelids and heard the thunder a couple of seconds later, and I was surprised to find out that a few of the other guys were awoke by just the flash as well! That was a first for me. So, the morning started out with a nice lightening show. Winds were calm, but a little rain and notheast wind came in while the storm passed. The swell had turned a little more south today so 4 Bobs was looking a little bigger this morning. Our first boat took off to Nipusi with only a couple of guys on it. Most of this group of guests we have now seems to be in no big hurry in the mornings. Funny how each group has their own personality. Our boat guys are ready to go around dawn, and some groups are ready to go then and other will hang out until 11! The guest is the boss here. You can go when you want. Anyway, Nipusi ended up being about the same size as yesterday but, unfortunately for that first boat, the winds quickly came up out of the south which is onshore at Nipusi. It was fortunate for our second boat though, because they wanted to go to Beng Beng where the south winds are offshore. They had fun there in the chest to shoulder high surf and stayed there quite a while. The afternoon boat returned to Beng Beng. Conditions were still really nice there and the surf was about the same size, but late in the afternoon a few head high sets came through. Sign of things to come, we hope! Looking for increasing swell tomorrow. GOOD NEWS : If anyone is interested in helping out with the Balinese Orphan Scholarship / Sponsorship Program.
