Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai island chain; June 8th surf report
The swell was showing a little more this morning out in front of the resort. The winds were out of the southeast, but quickly turned more east, with maybe even a little north in it and increased in strength. It was too strong for Hideaways to handle so we went to Bankvaults to see if it was handling. The conditioins there were OK, but not great. That wind direction can do some weird stuff to the area and it was blowing sort of northWEST around the corner towards E-Bay and throwing a bump into the lineup at Bankvaults. There was some size. It was probably doubleoverhead when the big ones came through, with a bigger set that cleaned just about everyone up and broke my board on the third of that four wave set. Damn! We got some fun waves, but it seemed to get even more weird as the tide filled in and the wind got even stronger, so we came back in for some lunch. In the afternoon, the wind calmed down a little and our guys went to Nipusi, hoping it would be good with the low tide. I had to catch a boat to Padang so I didn’t hear how it was, but they were still out there pretty late in the aftenoon so I’m sure they had fun. I’ll be in Padang for a few days. Hoping to get back on the island before Wednesday when a good swell is forcast to hit
