MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy crew and welcome back to the baliwaves.com and it’s time for the run down on whats happening out there today. I went down for the surf recon of the Outer Reefs of Tuban at 7.00am (I had to wait for the rain to settle down a bit first). And like I mentioned a couple a days ago wave height has started to pick up a touch. The tide was still on the way down, but not too far off the bottom of the Low water line. Wind direction was coming outta the SSE @ 5-9knot and pretty much straight off-shore on the Outer Reefs. Kuta Reef was still in need of more water over the reef and wave height was showing in the 1-2ft range , but with no one out there at this stage . Middle Reef had some nice looking 2-3 footers (up to head high on the bigger set waves) and there were 2-4 surfers out there enjoying it. Further down at Airport Left wave height was similar to Kuta Reef and also needing more water over the reef. But there will be a few little ones out there around mid morning. Further down South I’d have to guess that there’d be a few waves happening at Balangan in the 2-3ft range and maybe even a wave or two on Bingin but a touch smaller again. Uluwatu would have to be the best bet for a wave today and you’d more than likely find wave height in the head to head high plus class, If the weather clears up enough to ride my motor bike down there I will get ya’s some photos but the sky is still looking pretty dismal. Right now at 8.45am it’s still drizzling rain and much cooler than normal on Celsius scene, around 24 degree’s worth. In the mean time I’ve loaded ya’s up some photos from out and about the streets of Bali . The boys from the Kandui Surf Resort up in the Mentawai islands of Sumatra have also brought us up to date on what’s been happening in their part of Indonesia’s surfing world so check out their Surf Report Page for a bit of a read. Ok then that’s all folks but don’t go straying to far away cause we’ll be keeping ya’s in touch with whats happening on your favorite little tropical island called Bali. Money saver tip #752 : Anyone wanting to get out on a 3 island 7 day boat charter to Lembongan, Lombok and Sumbawa drop me a line cause I was talking to an operator last night and he’s offering the all inclusive trips for just AU$650.00 !!! Hey and don’t forget when ya day is done and ya wanna kick back for a few cold one’s make sure ya call into the “The Dewi Sri” live seafood restaurant here in Jalan Kartika Plaza, Tuban (the seafood at Jimburan Bay is not even in the picture). Anyway the boss Mr Nyoman Korna wants all you lot to know that between the hours of 3pm till 7pm, 7 days a week for the next month, he’s going to be offering ya’s ICY COLD BEER at way below Happy Hour prices. A large Bintang Beer will cost Rp12,000 (AU$1.70) and a small bottle of Bintang goes for just Rp7,000 (AU$0.90). So if you’ve got a thirst for ICE COLD BEER make sure ya drop by and say G’Day to Nyoman and his friendly staff at the “Dewi Sri” Finally, I just wanna refresh ya’s about what baliwaves.com is all about . We’re not trying to flog ya’s surf trips or sell ya’s anything for that matter, we’re just trying to show ya’s how good it is here in Bali / Indonesia for a surfing holiday. We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa; Onky has done his stuff for us again, sending through the goss on what’s going down over at Lakey Peak . Wave height is still only showing in the shoulder high range on “The Peak” this morning and surfing conditions were clean and glassy at the time. There were 10 surfers in the water at lakey Peak and no one venturing down to any of the other reef breaks due to the smallish wave size.and lowish tide factors. Over all the total number of visiting surfers has faded down to 60 in the Lakey are (possibly on the whole island of Sumbawa for that matter). But I’d reckon the boys who have stuck it out should see some better sized waves through the next 24hr period. For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
