MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning surfers and welcome aboard for the baliwaves.com daily surf and weather report. Plus a special hello and Selamat Hari Raya Galungan to all our Balinese friends tuning in from here in Bali and all around the World. I’ve just got back home after doing the surf check of the Outer Reefs and helping my local fishing friends get a couple of boats down to the water. The time has just gone 8.00am here in Bali . The tide was still running up but not much further to go before she hits the High water line. The wind direction, same as yesterday was coming outta the ESE @ 10-16knot , howling off-shore between Legian and Uluwatu . Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left is looking pretty similar in size to yesterday, in the 2-4ft+ range but I’d have to say that Kuta Reef is picking up a bit more size than yesterday. There were some nice 2-3ft+ waves peeling down the reef for a good 70yrds or so, and only a handful of surfers in the water at the time. Middle Reef was picking up some solid 4ft sets and will improve as the tide starts it’s run back out for the mid afternoon Low tide. Airport Left was breaking nicely in the 2-3ft+ range and there was already quite a few reef taxi’s parked across in the channel opposite the wave. With the High tide coming on you’d also find some quality beach breaks happening anywhere between Half Way Kuta right up to Legian. Not too mention Balangan would be worth a check if you were heading down South. And sure as shit Uluwatu would be cranking out some solid 4-5ft+ waves on the Main Peak and Temple sections this morning. Weather wise the sky is still cloudy and grey and we did get some more rain through the early A.M. But even so we can still expect a midday temperature of around 29-30 degree’s Celcius . The water temp is fine for board shorts and bikini’s at 22 degree’s Celcius. On the local surfing contest scene: Billabong will be running the next contest at Kuta Reef starting on the 29th of June and hopefully there’ll be some good waves for the local boys to cut loose in. Our roving surf reporter Pierre has also got another report on the Readers Report page along with some photos, so check out what Pierre ’s got to say. Ok then that just about sums us up for this mornings report, I’ve gotta put in some Temple time today. But if there’s any changes out on the Ocean I’ll be back with an afternoon up-date. Have a good one what ever ya got on and make sure ya stay tuned to the baliwaves.com cause we’ve got plenty more swell in transit to Bali . We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa; Onky has done his sms surf report for us and says that wave height is still hitting Lakey Peak in the 4-5ft class (upta double head high sets). Surfing conditions have been clean and glassy through the early to mid morning before the Tradewind has been reaching them and blowing cross/on-shore. That’s why ya need to wait for the morning High Tide before hitting Lakey’s at this time of the year. There were 20 surfers riding the left and right handers on “The Peak” and 7 surfers sitting over on Lakey Pipe . There were another 4 surfers riding at Nanga’s and then another 15-20 surfers heading down towards Periscopes . There has also been quite a few new arrivals (A.M. high tide’s) over at Lakey’s and now the total number of visiting surfers has reach 90+. For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
