Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai island chain; June 28th surf report The swell dropped off a little over night. Winds were blowing out of the south-southwest, but not very hard. Our guys headed for Hideaways to get a few before the tide got too low. There were still some overhead sets and the winds were not too bad. The tide got low fast though,so the boat returned home and those that still wanted to surf went out at 4 Bobs. In the afternoon the winds completely stopped. Everywhere was looking glassy. Our boat went to Hideaways to see how it was looking with the higher tide and good winds. What they found was an almost empty lineup, perfect conditions with just a breath of offshore winds, and overhead waves. They were taking video from the water and the boat and it was just tube after tube. After a spectacular sunset, the boys caught their last waves and headed home. We are hoping for bigger waves tomorrow.
Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai island chain; June 27th surf report Woke up this morning to the sound of bigger waves. The wind was calm and 4 Bobs was looking glassy and fun. We ran out there, thinking we would get a couple while the rest of the crew got it together and then we would all go to Hideaways, but while we were surfing the wind came up southwest, and fairly strong, making 4 Bobs the place to be with everywhere else being onshore with those winds. So we hung out there and surfed the head high plus waves. The winds stayed the same all day so it was all 4 Bobs. Boats started to show up so it got busy from time to time, but there were plenty of waves. The midday session only had a handful of people on it, probably due to the low tide and blazing sun, so we hardly had time to sit on our boards with all of the sets coming through. Late afternoon the wind backed down a little and some of our crew surfed Rifles. It still had a little lump on it from less than perfect winds all day, but there were a few head high plus sets and our guys got a few barrels. Looking for smaller surf tomorrow.
Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai island chain; June 26th surf report The wind was pretty strong today out of the south. The new swell was just starting to show so our guys went to check out Hideaways. The tide was a little low, but it was looking to tempting with the overhead sets coming through so they were on it. There were some good waves and a few tubes. The crew donated some skin to the reef in thanks. In the afternoon the tide was a little higher so our boat headed back to Hideaways. The wind had a little more west in it, but the swell had increased and was well overhead. Surfed until sunset. Hoping for bigger waves tomorrow.
