AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy folks and welcome back to the baliwaves.com , Bali ’s first and foremost original surf and weather report . And what a top day for surfing it’s been over here on this friendly little holiday island. I was down checking surfing conditions on the Outer Reefs of Tuban at first light and although the tide was still a touch low wave height was just the right size at head to double head high plus between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . I snuck out to Kuta Reef around 9.00am to shoot these current photos that are on display using the 600mm lens. There was a solid crowd of 40+ surfers in the water with wave height pushing double head high on the bigger one’s. Middle Reef was going double head high plus, but with way less surfers in the line up. Airport Left was also cranking through in the head to head high plus range and like Kuta Reef also pretty well crowded. The wind started off coming outta the N-NE but shortly after I started shooting the ESE-SE off-shore Tradewind kicked in and steadily increased in strength through out the day. Right now at 5.15pm she’s blowing hard at 8-15knot, and we’ve got a lot of exposed reef from the low low range Low Tide happening around sunset. Weather wise everything fell into place and we’ve had clear blue sky all day, and the temperature would still be up there in the late twenties on the Celsius scale. I’d have to imagine there woulda been some solid 6-8 footers hitting Uluwatu down on the southern end of the island as well. But Kuta Reef was breaking too perfectly to go past. Tomorrow should see more waves happening for the holiday crew but maybe dropping off a touch in size. But we’ll keep ya’s up ta date so don’t worry. Our man Pierre has also loaded another surf report from his travels along with a few photos included so check out his Readers Report for that. Plus the lads from the Kandui Surf Resort up in the Menatawai island chain have got more on their Mentawai islands report page. That’s me for now I wanna start editing yesterdays Video footage and load ya’s another fresh clip or two just to top off the day. The good guys at www.ihfonline.org who have been running the Balinese Orphan Schooling Program are in serious need of financial help to keep their operation above water, so please if anyone can help these fantastic people please drop them a line. Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Dewa made filed his 7.00am surf report from Lakey Peak and said that wave height had jacked into the solid 5-6 foot range out on “The Peak” and that there were 20 surfers sharing the perfect left and rights on offer. Then across the channel at Lakey Pipe there were another 8 surfers pulling into some sick backdoor barreling left handers. All in all there are currently 60 visiting surfers hanging out over in the lakey Peak surfing area.
For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel.
