*****KUTA REEF SPECTACULAR***** Good afternoon my surfing friends and thanks for dropping in for another dose of baliwaves. What can I say, the weather was perfect , the wind off-shore , and the waves that were smoking through on good old Kuta Reef were farking spectacular. And what a show the local boys put on for us, outstanding. I reluctantly made the decision to get in position in the channel with my 600mm lens around 9.00am, just as the tide was starting to fill back in from the early am low tide. I’d go as far as saying there wouldn’t have been a better wave on offer today anywhere in Indonesia . An any old guide book or website that claims Kuta Reef as a wave for beginners to intermediate level are full of it. Wave height was almost reaching the max level that KR can handle, around double head high. No shortage of double sucking, warping tube monsters either. There was a solid crowd in the water but the local surfers stole the show and really turned on some hot stuff. I ended up shooting over 100 high quality photos so I’m going to run another batch for ya’s tomorrow. There’s just too many good one’s to load up in one batch. I also plan on getting out there tomorrow, but not to shoot photos, if ya know what I mean. I also want to say a big Thank You to our man Dewa Made who has been religiously sending us sms surf reports from LakeyPeak for the last 6 months. Dewa has sent us his last report, starting tomorrow he’ll be on the baliwaves team here in Bali . From now on we’ll be hearing the news on Lakey Peak from local Sumbawa ripster Onky . For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s Tomorrow should see more waves happening for the holiday crew but maybe dropping off a touch in size. But we’ll keep ya’s up ta date so don’t worry. Our man Pierre has also loaded another surf report from his travels along with a few photos included so check out his Readers Report for that. Plus the lads from the Kandui Surf Resort up in the Menatawai island chain have got more on their Mentawai islands report page. The good guys at www.ihfonline.org who have been running the Balinese Orphan Schooling Program are in serious need of financial help to keep their operation above water, so please if anyone can help these fantastic people please drop them a line.
